AniInterview Sorry, this movie sucks
Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
ThrillMessage There are better movies of two hours length. I loved the actress'performance.
Mandeep Tyson The acting in this movie is really good.
dragokin Jason Statham delivers and excellent role in this movie. Supposedly he confided in someone off-screen that he hasn't been acting, at all, but even that hasn't spoiled the impression. Otherwise there are a couple of funny quotes and you might as well forget about London. In the description IMDb offers "Drama" and "Romance" as references. Drama might apply to the environment, since everything reminded me of a theater play brought to screen. Romance is there, as well, but more on a rudimentary level.Chris Evans plays a guy who's been drowning his sorrows over an ex-girlfriend in alcohol an drugs. This is a legitimate effort on the path of self-destruction, but we see it only on his face. The rest of his body, and we've seen a lot of it throughout the movie, had been closer to Captain America than to the average drug user. The only characters in the movie i remembered making money on their own have been Statham's and Joy Briant's characters. The rest were spoiled lazy kids with rich parents. If the intention of the movie has been to show us all those bland people and their superficial problems, then it's been a success. Otherwise, three stars.
kingflick A lot of movies are made to target specific audiences.Chris Evans plays a young man who is still hung up on his ex girlfriend. Jessica Biel (his then real life girlfriend) plays "London", the eponymous, ever alluring object of his affection. Jason Statham plays an enlightened man, confused about his ethical stances. It's based in New York, mostly in the bathroom of an ostentatious duplex apartment filled with ridiculously attractive men and women at a going away party of lovely London. There's cocaine usage and camera usage that will stupefy you. The score is brilliant, I'm told it's mostly The Crystal Method. And finally, the dialogue. It's like Hunter Richards (The writer/director) stepped into the soul of every single man brought to inexplicable anguish because of a woman, and managed to articulate it in what seems like the words you and I are all too familiar with.Like I said before, a lot of films seem to be made for specific audiences. If you're in the mood for a fun, beautifully scripted film about love and loss and pain, this film has you written all over it.Enjoy.
BernardoLima Hunter Richards's first feature film, London, is quite the gem. I guess the best way to described is as a complex and extremely smart tale of a man hurting by a traumatic breakup. Chris Evans plays the lead character, Syd, a very complex and layered individual who has a cocaine addiction. And the beautiful Jessica Biel is London, Syd's ex-girlfriend. Chris learns that a good-bye party is being thrown for London. Syd decides to go even thought he wasn't invited and brings his new aqquaitance with him. Bateman(played by Jason Statham), a banker/drug dealer from who Syd bought cocaine. They arrive early at the party and are let in by a reluctant Rebbecca, the party host and owner of the loft. Syd and Bateman go upstairs to the bathroom and proceed to snort large quantities of cocaine while they talk about life, love and death. There's also a few flashback sequences throughout the film that show what happen between Syd and London. While Syd and Bateman are in the bathroom, the party gains life. Syd is afraid of getting out of the bathroom but he knows that ultimately, he has to talk to London to either sort things out or finally move on... One can say that the plot is a bit strange and/or of-beat when compared to other films, and that may be the reason why this film isn't appreciated by many( hence the low rating on IMDb). If you want to "escape" from your daily routine and watch something uplifting, this is probably not the film for you. This is the everyday life, this is an extremely well made character study that shows in a very raw and realistic way the anguish and turmoil of relationships. The main character, Syd, feels lost and depressed and he questions himself, at one point he questions everything, just as real people do( I know I do). Regarding the technical aspects; the direction is very stylish, the soundtrack fits extremely well with the tone of the film, the dialog is superb and the acting was tremendous. Chris Evans was great and managed to show a few different sides and layers of what otherwise could have been an unlikable character. Jason Statham showed some serious dramatic skills that I was not expecting considering he's mainly an action star.Jessica Biel was radiant as London, Syd's ex-girlfriend who longed for commitment. Overall, London is a very intelligent, honest and realistic film. I guess it is an acquired taste but I won't be forgetting this one soon.9/10
paulrmann London is one of those movies that seem to typify what 'modern' film-makers seem to think encapsulates modern 'melodrama' or 'social realism'. Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha…… If the objective of this film is to assemble a cast of entirely unlikeable, pretentious, self-absorbed, egocentric late 20somethings (pretending to be teenagers (huh?) of unlikely wealth & unexplained income ???), inside a single New York apartment. Played out to a backdrop of supposed 'life issues' & 'internal turmoil' (ha,ha). Wherein, this group of self-pitying, narcissistic, drug-taking, arrogant, pathetic idiots pout about the place, dispensing cod-philosophy, and whining about meaningless aspects of their obviously privileged life. Then Hunter Richards has succeeded admirably.Even the movies tag-line manages to cause exasperatingly, wide-eyed moral offence: "One young man's incredible journey of self-discovery" errrr how so? What? by snow-balling coke all night then acting like a total W**ker. Evans's character Syd has got to be the most revolting & unsympathetic characters I've ever witnessed on screen. - I think I'd rather invite Norman Bates round for my going away party. As we are forced to sit through flashbacks of him preaching and treating his unnervingly beautiful, willing yet vacuous ex-girlfriend like s**t. We're then forced to swallow the unlikely conceit that this total a**ehole couldn't say "I Love You" to her in 2 years. (pass me the shotgun). Unbelievably, we are expected to feel some sort of empathy and compassion toward this character back in the present, as he snorts coke, and continues to treat his ex like s**t. What a total scumbag..!It's interesting to read other user reviewers and comments, who announce in solemn and earnest tone, how this movie deals in 'strong issues', and how they "relate so easily" to Evans's character Syd going through a his break-up. Jeepers - we've all been hurt in relationships, but if I was Syd, I'd do the decent thing and jump out the apartment window. I think these people perhaps need to 'grow up a little and stop partying through their noses.Instead, watch Cloverfield again, and delight as a similar bunch of vapid, conceited, hollow, preening morons get squashed and ripped apart by monsters…!Loved Jason Statham's wig though……..
