Karry Best movie of this year hands down!
Mjeteconer Just perfect...
Stoutor It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.
Jonah Abbott There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
lukem-52760 I grew up watching all those AWESOME 90's slasher films after Scream started the new wave of slasher Thrillers & i loved those times of the 90's in my teens & couldn't wait for the next Horror hit & I know what you did last summer (1997) was a massive blockbuster hit & a Nostalgic classic of mine. This is actually my favourite of all those 90's slasher flicks i love the cast & the BRILLIANT atmosphere & music & the excellent small fishing town location setting!!! The movie has a darkness to it,a real sense of dread & with the old worn down looking fishing town makes this a great slasher, the setting is beautiful & similar to the little fishing coastal town in the Fog (1980) so that's a very good thing!!! Ben Willis is a scary killer too & very iconic & memorable with his wet looking fisherman coat & hook!!! Very cool & menacing looking. Yeah this movie was a huge summer hit & when i finally brought it on video i loved it & watched it many times on a summer night, a perfect summer time slasher & one of the best made & actually a very well acted proper Thriller with real drama & characters within the slasher parts & that's why this stands up way above the rest of the 90's slasher wave!!! This was made to be very good & not just another teen killer flick. Last summer also stands out for having real serious drama & sense of threat, you really feel for the damaged characters & their lives!!! Other good 90's slashers are of course Scream & Scream 2,The Faculty, Halloween H20 & Urban Legend these stood out as excellent well made slasher films & are all great
morrison-dylan-fan Gathering up flicks to view for ICM's poll of the best films from 1997,I read a Facebook post from HMV marking 20 years since this title came out.Shoerly after seeing that post,I found it being added to Netflix UK,and spotted fellow IMDber Red-Barracuda rate it. With all these coincidences, it felt like the perfect time to go on a Summer holiday. The plot:Celebrating Helen Shivers being crowned college princess, pals Shivers, her boyfriend Barry Cox, Julie James and her boyfriend Ray Bronson drive home drunk. Paying no attention to the road, the gang run over a man dressed in a long black coat. Believing they would be charged with manslaughter, the group pick up the body and chuck it into the ocean. Just as the body is being thrown, the man screams and puts his hand out. Losing contact with her friends after they all vowed a year ago not to tell anyone of what they did,James is horrified to get an anonymous letter, saying that they know what she did last Summer.View on the film:Only keeping a partial reference to the original ending, and the drunk teens run over a person part of Lois Duncan's book, (whose daughter Kaitlyn was killed in an unsolved murder, and who hated this adaptation, with the book being about the remorse the teens (none of whom are killed) have over taking the life of an innocent man) the screenplay by Kevin Williamson hooks into his most streamline take on the Slasher genre, with Williamson's pop culture- driven dialogue being clipped to a handful of stray lines of dialogue, and the set-pieces lacking any serious feeling of danger. Locking the door on a person being trapped in a car whilst a nutter waits outside, (a major theme of his work) Williamson gathers a surprisingly nasty group for the slayings, with their blunt exchanges stubbing out any chance of empathy growing for any member of the gang.Despite being filmed in California, director Jim Gillespie (despite this being a big hit,he would not direct again until 2002's The Legacy) & cinematographer Denis Crossan give the movie a very good small, fishing town vibe,as slick tracking shots catch the daily prep of seafood in the background,as the teens get slayed. Appearing to be inspired by the Giallo sub-genre, Gillespie gives the black coat- wearing psycho ultra-stylised Slasher set-pieces,from the killer hiding in smoke-covered rooms,to the face of the murderer being revealed via a reflection in the glasses of a victim,as Julie James is reminded what she did last Summer.
map-78480 I Know What You Did Last Summer is not the usual thriller slasher movie. Usually in thriller slasher movies there is nothing but gore and blood. But this movie is different, it has a an excellent story and instead of there being seven eight main characters where everyone dies there are only four main characters with a completely different story. Plot: Warning MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS. Four friends are driving drunk after a party and hit someone. Afraid that the police would believe that it was an accident, they dispose the body in a abandoned dock. One year later the events of last year start to haunt them when they find out that someone knows and is coming back for revenge. Flaws: none. Story is very different and absolutely flawless. Just the acting could have been better. Otherwise there are no flaws.Acting: Jennifer Love Hewitt is brilliant. She is the one of the main highlights of the film. Sarah Michelle Geller is okay at first but slowly moves into her character, especially during the final scenes. Ryan Phillipe is excellent. He is the star of the movie and plays his character with excellence and efficiency. Freddie Prinze Jr could have done better and was okay.Overall this is a very different thriller slasher movie which makes you jump up and down and has a excellent story
Filipe Neto In this film, a group of teenagers commit a crime and decides to keep that secret forever but someone knows what they did and decides to punish them. From the same writer of "Scream" (Kevin Williamson), this film is directed by Jim Gillespie and features Jennifer Love Hewitt as a protagonist.Teen movies usually go up in college or the end of high school, and show plots with stereotyped groups of adolescents (sexual perverts, idiots, nerds, dumb blonde's and others). This film starts from that and introduces notes of suspense: a crime, a secret, several murders throughout the plot and a busty girl playing the damsel in distress. This would make an excellent comedy (who doesn't like to see stupid teenagers to die horribly in movies?) and there are several moments that are deeply hilarious and predictable. The creation of suspense fails repeatedly for that reason.Jennifer Love Hewitt is a satisfactory actress, but fails to convince the audience. The problem may not be the actress but the plot, the script and the way her character was planned. The actress tries at various times to reach a higher level of psychological tension but ruins everything with theatrical moments and hysterical screams. The rest of the cast doesn't matter, are there to die or kill. The best of the film is to discover the killer's identity but, unfortunately, if we just want that, any CSI series or similar can give that even better.
