Karry Best movie of this year hands down!
Hottoceame The Age of Commercialism
Erica Derrick By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Richard Alex Jenkins I'm guessing the low 6.2 overall rating for this film is due to the amount of 'unnecessary' violence which turned some people off, but if you're looking for an invigorating and hard-punching British gang/police flick, look no further... it's a very enjoyable film. The main issue is the film's degree of realism, and would this plausibly happen in real life? The answer is yes, it's very plausible in an exaggerated sort of way, with only a few plot-holes to keep the pace moving.I'm also guessing the stereotypical Albanian hit-man and his bad-fitting track suit combination could make a few people reel away from this film - it adds nothing new, granted, but if you like violent British films like 'Starred Up' or 'This Is England', you're equally going to like this. It's seedy, mildly depressing, bleak, hopeless, very violent, graphic... extremely hard-hitting - what's not to like about this film if you enjoy the genre? A heads-up if you've been put off by the negative reviews. Recommended.
epiceffectss Yeah this was great , a superb film. Some of my fave actors were in it , that short scouse guy out of this is England , love him and that other dumpling who's in all sorts. A bent copper is helping the foreign underworld scum keep their drug trade going in London by accepting bribes for tip offs. Things are going well for the dirty copper , he's making a few shillings , he's got some pennies to spare. He likes being top dog. Then he gets involved with two nasty lowlifes from Albania. And they are just too nasty , cutting up people into pieces , beating women , running prostitution and selling cocaine. Like a modern day Scarface. Now our bent copper thinks he can handle the Albanians but they can barely understand him , things get messy and a killing spree begins. I loved the soundtrack , it was v modern and provoking. It was all v sleek , great atmosphere and shows what those nasty Albanian gangsters are doing to our beloved capital city , we must hunt them down and get them out of the UK , and prevent their women trafficking which is now so prevalent in the UK. Right only thing that would have made this even better is if Danny dyer kicked sum butt ... But hey I'm the dyermeister.
Tom Dooley The plot is that a drug squad in London is seemingly as corrupt as the people they are trying to police. Michael (Peter Ferdinando) is the Detective Sergeant and he is the central figure with a taste for coke (the snorting variety) but essentially a good heart that is obscured by his own greed. 'The book' is for other cops in this film where the line between the law and law breakers is very opaque indeed. Then their cozy World gets turned upside down when two Albanian low life's turn up and start to make things rather uncomfortable - that is when the line between good and bad goes from blurred to non existent. Now there are some big names here; Stephen Graham and Neil Maskell both giving convincing performances as ever. The acting is all better than good; the direction and the production are superior too. Some of the scenes are very stylishly done, but the visceral depictions of violence (both on and off screen) makes sure that this does not become a 'classy crime flick'. The ending will leave some a bit annoyed but this is in most places a down to earth and realistically imagined film - hence my rating. Not one for the squeamish but one that shows a good Brit crime film can still be made.
mrbunglesays This movie has a 5 rating as I'm writing this and its total b.s. This movie is fantastic! One reviewer writes about how bad the ending is. It's clear has not an intelligent movie goer. The meaning else right over his head. He believes they ran out of money and needed to add a different ending. The ending is purposely fine this way. Its brilliant and fits right in with the spirit and tone of the film. This is not a standard crime film as another reviewer states. It's far above any standard crime film. It's a crime film. So naturally it's about crime, but it's about a part of the London underworld that's hardly seen. Sure there are drugs involved and sex slaves. That's what crime is. If your going to make a film in the crime genre, it's going to have one of those elements in it. That doesn't make it standard. If you like dark films that demand your attention, your going to love it. Its very violent, and not for easily offended movie goers. I can see a lot of less intelligent individuals having a problem with the ending. I won't give it away, but I will say it's not the first movie to end in this fashion. I think it's the most natural way I've seen this type of ending used. So go see this film. If your a smart person. If your not go watch Transformers again.
