VividSimon Simply Perfect
FuzzyTagz If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
Keeley Coleman The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
Loui Blair It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
SnoopyStyle A group of young people get an invitation to a rave party on an isolated island. They miss the boat. Simon (Tyron Leitso) tries to get a ride from fisherman Salish (Clint Howard). Captain Kirk (Jürgen Prochnow) accepts $1000 despite the rumored evil spirits. They are pursued by a local Coast Guard officer. None of them know that the island has been invaded by zombies. They arrive to find the place trashed and seemingly abandoned.This Uwe Boll film is generally a low grade B-movie adapted from a video game. His reputation is well deserved. His camera work is amateurish and flat. One particular sequence almost made me seasick. At first, I thought it to be artistic shaky camera but it's more likely sea swell shaking the docks. His filming of the kills are really poor with no tension. It's got all the hallmarks of a bad B-movie. The zombie makeup is student level. The unimaginative story is flat and convoluted at the same time. The actors are mostly fine TV level workers but nobody is winning any awards in this one. The actresses have boobs and some of them show them off. You may recognize Erica Durance from Smallville. The bad movie list is almost entirely checked off. There are sequences of game play weirdly inserted into the movie to accentuate the Sega game. The spinning action scenes do nothing but get boring and dizzying. It's a Matrix wannabe fail. This is all bad but I've seen worst.
javoegele I want to tell you why this is a pretty kick ass movie. First off lets consider what the bare minimum we should expect out of a an entertaining horror movie: 1. Blood, 2. Boobs, 3. Beasts and this movie has all three in spades. The action scenes are hyper stylized yet original and interesting. The zombie effects are reminiscent of Lucio Fulci's "Zombie", plus they are practical effects, a super bonus considering many films, even those made in 2002 were relying far too heavily on cheap CGI effects. I will offer that some of the acting is pretty ridiculous at best but some performances including Clint Howard's are truly genre classic. Avoiding all story spoilers, as I think this film should be experienced in the purest way possible, I would like to point out overall the story moves at a brisk pace and never tests the audience in their patience. This film offers a lot for horror fans and whatever your previous opinion of this film is or if you haven't seen it yet I implore you to watch it again/first time with an open mind and a youthful enthusiasm for the strange and fantastic.
Wilder Movie Reviews With a 2 rating on IMDb and only 4% on Flixster, I was curious to see if it was really that bad. Damn I really need to stop being so curious! While it probably isn't the worst film ever made, it surely is one of the worst zombie ones.At time it just seems like really bad music video. The flashes of scenes from the video game really don't help. Especially as this is meant to be a prequel of the games?I gave this a rating of 2/10. The only reason it has a 2 not a 1 is for Jurgen Prochnow. He has some great comedic moments. Well great for this film!Don't Be Curious!
dela-82719 No wonder this movie seemed odd , when I watched it I had to see the year it was made ! And it makes perfect sense !!!! This movie was made in 2003, I also looked up the year Resident Evil was made , which was 2002, but I looked it up because I kept seeing flashes of like video games during the movie and I found it so odd , so I thought to myself hmm and started taking a look because I'm such a fan of Resident Evil the movies and the games. In my theory of course , I saw that Resident Evil was made a year earlier and I know it takes such a long tome to make movies but I still think that this movie was hoping to get such a big hit like resident evil!!! But it's super awful!! Oh and I had no idea house of the dead was a video game I thought it was just a movie.
