Alicia I love this movie so much
Wordiezett So much average
Rosie Searle It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
RavenGlamDVDCollector To all you lot out there canning this movie: Take this! I hope my 10 here ups the score at least somewhat!Engaging, intriguing, right from the start. I tend to choose movies I'm often not too happy with, usually there's a considerable lot of dorky stuff involved in the script and acting and general presentation, but this one, this one's a hot hit with me! I can enthuse about delightfully pretty Chloë Grace Moretz AND at the same time tell you the kid can act, she is one day gonna be a big star OKAY she already is, I've just seen none of her other stuff, but boy, am I hooked, reeled in, swallowed the bait hook, line and sinker, yeah baby!By some coincidence, as luck would have it, I'm watching Billie Piper in the British TV series SECRET DIARY OF A CALL GIRL and this little Chloë, she looks like the kid sister of that one, especially in the facial close-up scene's in Eddie's truck. And can Chloë Grace act! She is every bit her tragically comic character. And the most hug-worthy little darling you've ever set your eyes on. I'm a most recent CGM convert, like now. Well, some time ago I downloaded the trailer, but that was just to scout the movie. Now with my big screen I can just sit here agape at the sight of a budding Hollywood goddess. My one complaint: My DVD from the UK doesn't have subtitles. And these characters speak down Southern. Every now and then words that I can't quite decipher, even whole sentences. Coulda real easily been fixed with a good ol' subtitle track. But somebody in DVDsville skimped.
videorama-759-859391 Such a good and entertaining drama, is Hick, but of course what makes it entertaining is great little actress, Chloe Moretz, who takes on a braver, role, before that of something, like The Equalizer. She's sick of her white trash existence. At it's start, again, we see a kind of stereotypical type to Moretz's role, as a friendless schoolkid who's just turned lucky thirteen, where her Mum (Lewis) splits, seeing a much better offer with a much older ordinary looking guy, as she's left with good for nothing father, so she splits, meeting a few different characters, on her travels, and with her sexual prowness, raises a few eye lids. Hick is a movie adventure as to see what path, Moretz's life will take. She gets in a little deep, with a well meaning, but older unhinged cowboy, (Redmayne) excellent like Moretz, who wants her sexually, and Moretz will get a few meters running here. A fattened up Baldwin, a lodge owner, plays a real ambiguous and dark character, really hard to make sense of, who feels no remorse, in killing his own chickens, for profit. A cute little time passing drama, with great/strong performances, Hick is. It has a couple of moments that shock, but aren't we getting tired of wannabe tough asses, giving that Dirty Harry 44 magnum speech.
veselina_grigorova I enjoyed this movie, because of the undetermined type of emotion it leaves behind and the great performance of all three leading actors. For me this movie reflects the states of mind of futurelessness, opportunism, excitement of the unknown, innocence, confusion, succumbing to temptation and past regrets. The mixture would resonate into most viewers' hearts, as they can associate with at least some of these feelings. It is a coming-of-age tale and a bitter one.Chloe delivers an amazing performance, which illustrates pretty well the misconceptions about the world, that a person of her character's age would hold and the confusion of those meeting reality. All this, while being simply seductive in a Lolitta kind of way.Eddie Redmayne, in this movie, is an absolute incorporation of the gravitational pull of danger and the charisma of the mysterious. His performance is very convincing and the message very real.Glenda, the haunted by the past, reckless, survivor character played by Blake is a very nice touch. All of them together, they draw a pretty accurate picture of the vicious circle, in which the predators and victims of any form of abuse are caught up.Some scenes lack the depth and impact, they could have had, if different cinematography tools were used. Sometimes I failed to see any reflection on a situation or cause-effect relation, that I had expected. However, the message still gets through and it's a pleasant, if disturbing, piece.
Wynn Chloe Moretz is an absolute pleasure to watch. She is highly expressive and - there's no other word - cute. Her smile - so rare in this picture - when she is playing categories is almost heartbreaking. You suddenly glimpse the child. Eton College has produced 19 British Prime Ministers, including the current one, Damian Lewis, Dominic West and Tom Hiddlestone. And Eddie Redmayne. It is very likely the grandest school in the world. You cannot get more aristocratic. Seems however that the sons of the British rich do very good Americans. Redmayne is astonishingly good in this movie - almost wasted. Because it is not a great film - perhaps a little nasty in fact - though thoughtful in its way. Soundtrack was great. Whomsoever was responsible was obviously a Dylan aficionado, with a pretty good knowledge of country. Patsy Kline has an appropriate melancholy to her voice, and Dylan is all Hibbing, Minnesota, pretty darn hick itself as far as I understand. In the end, though, Hick is not cinematic enough. Would do very well on late night TV (which is how I caught it).
