UnowPriceless hyped garbage
Stoutor It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.
Taha Avalos The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
Dana An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
patrickkemner I never really found Mrs Moore beautiful, when she was 25, 30 or later. But in this movie, she is more than beautiful. Her long hair makes her look young again (early 30s) and her acting is much more evolved than in those lesser big budget movies that they pay her to get naked or something like that. In this movie, we see Mrs Moore the actress, not the beautiful face and skinny body studios paid to get earlier in her life. On top of that, she is in a good script and movie. The movie itself is well written and made. It begins as a drama, then a fantastic movie, then a strange movie to come back to fantastic. Really great idea and well executed. No need to have hundreds of millions to make good movies, all you need are good actors(men, women and children) and a good script. In this movie, we have both of them. But be careful now, I'm not saying that it's the movie or the script of the century, I'm just saying it's a well woven one that should get more attention. I think this movie is an underdog and should be rated higher than it is right now.Good work, and I hope that Mrs Moore comes back to the big screen with such beauty, femininity and good acting. Oh, and if you are reading this Mrs Moore, stay away from Botox, plastic surgery and all that crap, you look great just the way you are. :)
Donald Buehler Demi Moore in Half Light provides a convincing picture of how difficult it is to get over the death of a loved one. First of all the scenery - sea side - lighthouse of Scotland is perfect. The cottage she goes to would be great to stay at while you recuperate from whatever - if it weren't for the ghosts. This is one of the few films which actually gave me chills. Even the fairly predictable scenes with her dead son were well done and creepy. A lot is done with shadows, music and the overall atmosphere of the cottage - the sea side town - and the lighthouse. There is a minor attempt at portraying her as a crazy writer (Jack Nicholson in "The Shining") and the portrayal of the strange events surrounding her make us wonder - has she lost it? - or there ghosts? (I, of course was pulling for the ghosts.)The ending is a little Hollywood - I would have preferred something more tragic, but it was OK. My rating of an 8 is based on the creeps - spooky ambiance - and the scenery.Worth your while. DonB
Neil Doyle The rugged locales photographed in Cornwall, England supply just the right atmosphere for this tale of a lonely writer who moves to a remote location to escape her unhappy past and has a tender relationship with the local lighthouse keeper. Their romance forms the first half of the story which comes to a halt after she makes a shocking discovery. The troubled woman (Demi Moore in a very effective performance) finds kinship in another lost soul and this part of the film is touching and real. The script takes a different turn at this point through a series of unsettling incidents in which nothing is what it seems. Some of the twists are quite clever but somewhat predictable too for anyone who has seen a lot of ghost stories. However, at no point does the suspense let up, so whatever flaws there are in the story are compensated by fine photography, eerily effective background score and a uniformly excellent cast. The lighthouse keeper is played skillfully by Hans Matheson, who bears a striking resemblance to either Ewan McGregor or Richard Hart (the actor who played Lana Turner's husband in "Green Dolphin Street"). He's a sensitive actor in a demanding role. With just the right atmosphere for a Gothic romance of this sort, this is certainly worth a watch.
Armand it is beautiful, touching and impressive. recreation of atmosphere, fragile connection between death and life, delicate love story and nice performance of Demi Moore are good points. only problem - mixture between Gothic and crime, a story with too many ornaments, not really credible. but the final taste is warm. the final image, like the horses on beach or shell in sand are end of a circle out of ordinary recipes. because the key is touching poetry of this movie about past error, expectation and need of real answer to a long, heavy expectation. that is solution who makes it more than piece of a chain. but the power son remains. so, just a correct film. but not more.
