Synopsis

Marine biologist Jack Ellway and his son Brandon are drawn to the Polynesian island of Malau to study the effects of recent seismic activity on the area's marine life. Along with the local doctor Alyson Hart, they soon become caught up in the investigation of a series of recent drownings with unexpected results. As Jack explores the surrounding ocean for a mysterious marine creature, Brandon discovers and befriends a three-foot-long baby creature that is able to leave the ocean and walk on land. As more dangerous and giant creatures come onto the island, and the military begins to take offensive action, Jack must risk everything to save the creatures, the island and his son. ChicRawIdol A brilliant film that helped define a genre
ChanFamous I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
Kien Navarro Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
Nicole I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
willywants Mild spoilers below! Marine biologist Jack Ellway and his son Brandon are drawn to the Polynesian island of Malau to study the effects of recent seismic activity on the area's marine life. Okay, "Gargantua" is cheesy and features third-rate special effects. So what? I liked it. Being a Amphibian lover and breeder, it was nice to finally see a movie where the creature's aren't giant lizards, but are, in fact, salamanders. I also thought that the performances were really good. The writer clearly researched what he was doing, the only truly annoying flaw being the fact one character mentions that "Aquatic Salamanders breed in undersea caves..." That was just bad science. No known Salamander lives (Or breed in for that matter) in salt water. That aside, I thought the screen play was really strong. There was also some beautiful locations and photography. I'm sorry if i've bored you faithful readers with my above preaching, just watch the movie and forgive the filmmakers for using muppets for the monsters. My rating for "Gargantua"--7/10.
Norwaykid Yup this was a special kind of movie. It was like Tvs Sinbad the pirate! They have lizards for monsters, but make them look bigger. That's just stupid. But hey, the movie gave me a good laugh;o)
Carycomic And, what I expected was a poor man's hybrid of "Jaws" and "Godzilla," or even "E.T. MEETS GORGO.". *Ahrrr! There be spoilers ahead.* But, instead of one CGI sea monster, I GOT FOUR!!! A WHOLE FAMILY!!!! In putting together several different sci-fi cliches, the production company behind this movie came up with something relatively new. And, surprisingly pleasant, to boot. Felt sorry for the death of Big Mama. But, it was kind of heart-warming to see Big Daddy stop rampaging and head for home, once the two kids had been recovered by him! In short, a nice Grade B-plus movie to while away a boring rainy night.
killermuffin I have low standards for movie entertainment, but I think I managed to get through the first five minutes before looking for something else to do. Of course, I'm an adult. My son is 8. He loves it. For the monster movie watching youngster set, this isn't too bad of a movie. It's not too scary and it has the kid hero who saves the misunderstood monster from the evil guy who just wants to kill its mother and make a fortune using the baby as an attraction.I suspect that in another year or two, when he notices girls, we'll get to donate Gargantua to Goodwill, where it will sit until some other bright-eyed six year old whines his mother into a five cent purchase.
