AniInterview Sorry, this movie sucks
Odelecol Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
Fairaher The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
Kaydan Christian A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
OllieSuave-007 In this TV horror, Mia Farrow plays Julia Lofting, a wealthy American woman living in London, who separates from her husband and moves into an old house in Kensington after the untimely passing of her daughter. But, as soon as she moves in, she sees apparitions of a young girl and believes it is her daughter, until being told otherwise. It is a dreary movie with a dark setting, poor acting, and muffled dialog - you could hardly make out what the actors were saying. The soundtrack was dreadful, pacing was slow, and the suspense was all over the place. Grade D-
begob Fleeing from her useless husband after the death of her daughter, a woman rents a house where the past revisits with deadly intent. But whose past is it?An overlooked classic? Not quite, and I can see where the haters and lovers are coming from.First up, this is London in the '70s, so the mix of classes is plausible and the notion of well-to-do school children suffering cursed lives makes for a good plot device that drew me into the mystery. There's the usual guff about research/asylum-dweller revealing a clue just before she dies etc, but the story does get its creeps on and ends with chilling ambiguity. The main problem is the first half tells a drab, simplistic story with no spark in the dialogue, and it's hard to tell if it's going anywhere. Sometimes it feels like slice-of-life meets Damian Omen. But the acting is good enough to keep me engaged, with plenty evidence why Farrow was in demand for close-ups.The score is decent, but it misjudges several scenes - especially the mirror reveal toward the end - with cheery/wistful plinky-plinky synth.Overall, a good story that undersells itself at the start. A lot of material could have been cut out to focus on the mother-daughter theme.ps. Take a look at the cast - some nice names in there, and I missed the Downton Abbey link. Plus Mrs Flood was a highly prolific bit-parter - RIP.
preppy-3 A woman (Mia Farrow) is in shock. Her little girl chokes to death despite Mia's attempts to help her. She leaves her husband (Kier Dullea) and moves into an old house to be her own. Then she starts seeing a ghost who is an evil little girl. This is well-done and serious with good acting...but it just doesn't work. It moves VERY slowly and drags out everything to a ridiculous degree. Also it's very quiet and moody. When I saw it I was fighting to stay awake. Even worse the appearances of the little girl ghost aren't frightening at all--they're just dull. Too slow and somber to work. It's based on a book by Peter Straub. The book is MUCH better than the movie.
HumanoidOfFlesh Mia Farrow plays upper class woman who lost her eight year old daughter due to tragic circumstances. Her grief is immense. She distances herself from her wealthy husband Keir Dullea and begins to live in a flat on the outskirts of London. When paranormal party séance starts she begins to see sinister manifestations of children around her.As the story begins to unravel it seems that it's connected with brutal torture and murder of a small boy many years ago...Adapted from excellent and truly creepy Peter Straub's novel "Julia" this slow-moving ghost story is effectively eerie. The acting is fantastic and the conclusion is unforgettably devastating. The piano-and-strings score by Colin Towns adds a lot to subtle atmosphere of dread.8 spectral visions out of 10.
