Lovesusti The Worst Film Ever
Unlimitedia Sick Product of a Sick System
Keeley Coleman The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Dyran This movie truly exceeded my original expectations.Okay, maybe not "exceeded", but it certainly wasn't as terrible as I thought it was going to be, although close.I had rented this movie a couple of weeks ago, along with several other films, and never hearing about or any mention of it I thought it was going to be one of the more unforgettable films I'd have sat through.After watching it, however, I was proved wrong.The first half of the movie seemed somewhat difficult to laugh through, and contained a lot of badly-played-through jokes, but the second half completely redeemed it, in a way. I was consistently cracking up over and over. Ice Box and Tracy Morgan acted well all the way through, but I must say, Katt Williams' performance was absolutely, comp-uhletely astounding. I would watch the movie over and over just because he's in it.Overall, this odd dramedy of an awkward story happens to be a casual, fun, and even compelling movie that I would definitely request for you to see in your spare time.
leftflank Ice Cube's films have been getting worse and worse over the past few years with the recent and incredibly awful 'Are We Done Yet?' being one of the biggest offenders of the entire lot. With that, I didn't go into this one with big expectations, and I actually got a little bit more than what I bargained for because of it. The film has a solid story that has a lot of heart, but it's in very bad need of a rewrite. The laughs aren't gut busting, but I don't think they were intended to be--I think this was supposed to be an emotional drama about personal introspection, community bonding, and individuals returning to God; but unfortunately, the script comes close but not close enough. This could have been a much better film if only a little more time and TLC had been put into it by it's creators. Instead, it ends up being better than a lot of Cube's other recent offerings, but not by very much. It's worth a one-time rental, and that's about it.
Bill Jordan Well, I think the rating on here of 2.7 thusfar is probably a little low, but this movie certainly doesn't have much going for it nonetheless. It's not original at all, and in terms of being a comedy, did little more than make me smile at a line or two. But it is rather harmless, and it does try to have a positive message. Frankly, I think the writer/director was trying to imitate Tyler Perry, and did so rather poorly. There's even a character in one scene that appears to be a male actor impersonating an older female (though the character mysteriously disappears with no explanation). All in all, I wouldn't recommend this, but if you're looking for something to watch with the kids, they might enjoy it, and won't come away traumatized.
drebaby We saw this movie and the "The Bucket List" the same day and both were billed as comedies. Even though the latter has the more accomplished actors in Freeman and Nicholson as well as the the director in Rob Reiner, we thought that "First Sunday" was much more funnier. I liked both movies and both had tender moments, but I got into the characters more so in"First Sunday", than I did in the List.. Now I must admit that if you are not African-American, you might not get all of it, but everyone in the racially mixed crowd in the theater I saw it at in Southern California "loved" it.!! If you are afraid to be seen viewing it in a movie theater, at least support the cause by renting it when it is available on DVD
