VividSimon Simply Perfect
FirstWitch A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
Kien Navarro Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
Juana what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
aaronsaltzer I thought the movie was great. The part that was mysterious to me was Alex's survival. He said no one intervened with his death, which would've left his survival a miracle considering the police couldn't find a pulse when resuscitating him.
jackcwelch23 I remember seeing this film for the first time when I was 6 years old. I saw it at our holiday house in Byron Bay and only 3 movies have ever terrified me as much as this one did (Jeepers Creepers and A Nightmare On Elm Street) but the idea of this movie is still so great whenever I think about it. Instead of a blade wielding psycho we have death itself as our villain. And hey, it can take any of us out whenever it wants. It cannot be stopped. Unlike the Terminator, some plastic explosive will not do the trick. If you're chosen, your time is up mate. I couldn't sleep for about 3 weeks after watching it. I still don't know how i can get on a plane without having a nervous breakdown. I also look on this movie fondly as it gave me a serious adrenaline rush of fear. It is more thought provoking than people give it credit too. We are only here on borrowed time after all. The big man in the sky will send the reaper to come calling for us someday. Maybe we should just be grateful we didn't end up on this particular death list, as I would like to die with my body parts intact at the very least. Another great thing about it is Devon Sawa's performance, believable and sympathetic. He brings credibility to a role that could have been cardboard. It is a great shame that his career never took off after this, but he can at least smile knowing he gave a memorable performance in at least one movie. It's still no masterpiece and it has an unsatisfying ending, and of course all the sequels sucked, but it will always send that shiver down my spine in the most satisfying way whenever I watch it. Times up flight 180.
romanorum1 The movie has an interesting premise: A high school student, aboard an airplane and waiting to depart on his French classes' flight to Paris, has a premonition: a ghastly vision of an explosion. He then raises a commotion and bolts from the craft. A few minutes later the plane explodes in midair just after takeoff, killing everyone aboard. The view from the terminal is terrific, with glass shattering everywhere. The young man and six others – who have disembarked during the turmoil – have cheated death, but death, though unfeeling, hates to be cheated. And so for the rest of the movie death stalks the survivors, and picks them off one by one. Meanwhile the main character tries to figure out the death patterns to stay ahead of fate. As a mortician later tells Alex Browning (Devon Sawa) and sympathizing friend Clear Rivers (Ali Larter), "The risk of cheating the plan, of disrespecting the design, could incite a fury that could terrorize even the Grim Reaper."The whole feeling is one of doom, that something is out to get you, as writer Mark Twain thought of his family tragedies. Inanimate objects turn against people, like water, wind, electrical wires, vodka, gas cans, knives, lanterns, fish hooks, candles, a garage- door opener, etc. And folks die in various ways, like an elaborate strangulation, decapitation, traffic accident, fire, etc. When John Denver's tune, "Rocky Mountain High" is played, watch out for a falling sign! So we have a bizarre chain of connected events, like a Rube Goldberg machine. In the early 20th century Goldberg created cartoons for newspapers that depicted complicated gadgets that performed tasks in complex ways. FBI agents and others think that Alex is some kind of freak, especially because of his theories about death's design. The last half of the film focuses on Alex's increasing paranoia and precautions, like his opening of tin cans while wearing heavy gloves lest he should severely cut himself and get blood-poison. His lit candles are placed in water bowls as protection against an ill wind that may knock them over.Despite an interesting story-line, the film has its negatives. For one, the acting is just so-so, especially with co-lead Ali Larter. In addition, this morphs into just another horror film. Also, there are the plot flaws. One may say, "Why save someone's life as he will be doomed anyway?" You may come to the same conclusion by adding, "Why do we have doctors?" Nevertheless Director James Wong's concept was popular enough with teen viewers so that four sequels were produced. But the characters were mostly created just to be knocked off, although not quite as badly as those in the "Friday the Thirteenth" series. You may be entertained by it.
Thomas Luckens Tonight is movie night with the little ones. Having a hard time picking out an age appropriate movie? Look no further than Final Destination! This movie is jam packed with lots of kid friendly material. Whether it be the incredibly funny deaths or the sheer amount of blood and guts, this movie has it all. Starting at the beginning, we encounter a group of high school kids at the airport on their way to France. As they board the plane, we see a stupid looking baby and a mentally challenged man. It must be so nice that they are going to France, right? WRONG! These dumb looking buttheads are gonna die! Not only are we treated to seeing the death of a baby, but as a bonus, we are treated to the hilarious reaction of a mentally challenged man. I bet he thought it was an earthquake, lol. This man rolls around in his seat just as a mentally challenged man would as the plane goes down. Though thinking about that stupid baby dying is quite funny if I do say so myself. Heck, both of them are equally hilarious! The little ones will love watching some dumb cripple roll around during a plane crash. And surely the thought of a dead baby will give them nice, wholesome thoughts about life. But wait, there's more! You still have over an hour of blood and guts to go! There will be plenty of hilarious deaths that will have your kids rolling around in laughter (much like the mentally challenged man in the plane crash). So before putting in that Barney DVD, think about the important life values that your kids will learn from Final Destination. Why, i'm sure it will become your children's favorite film before bedtime!
