Afouotos Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
Deanna There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
fanofpoultry A very unfocused film with too many messages and not enough entertainment. The first half is okay. It starts out as your standard kung-fu flick with the usual terrific on-screen fighting as expected from Jet Li. But about halfway there is this boring 25 minute stretch with zero action which alone ruins the pacing. The second half is like an entirely different film with an unrelated plot and ludicrous turns of events. By the time they get to the fighting in the third act it is underwhelming because the first half had all the good stuff. Jet Li's acting doesn't add much to his character nor to the story. It feels like he phones it in which makes sense considering this was his supposed to be his last wuxia film. Good production values but overall a disappointing martial arts experience. Everything here was done better in Once Upon a Time in China and Ip Man.
SnoopyStyle It's 1910. China is considered the sick man of Asia. In Shanghai, the foreign powers created a contest with their four champion fighters. Only martial artist Huo Yuanjia (Jet Li) rose to the challenge. He dispatches the three western champions in various disciplines. Only Tanaka from Japan is left. The movie flashes back 30 years ago in Tianjin. Yuanjia's father wants him to learn writing rather than the family wushu. Despite that, he continues to strive to make Huo Wushu the best. However family tragedy strikes and he has to reconsider his life. The fights are terrific and wall to wall. The action is great. The stunt work is exceptional. The story is actually good and compelling. Jet Li is an action hero who provides good emotional acting this time around. Director Ronny Yu brings good work to the film. The fight against the boxer is a great set piece.
Josh Herman Honestly this movie truly is a must watch. Contains a credible amount of action, as well as a good Life Lesson to be learned by our Hero. But if there is any critique I could give the movie is that the change in scenes were less than professional. Through out the plot of the movie you may notice fast change in scenes, which can get a little confusing. And there are many unnecessary scenes which the movie could do with out. I feel like the Director tries to explain the story but discontinues the scene for lack of time. The best example would be (spoiler alert) when he's on the boat, then all of sudden walking across a river. I understand what they are trying to explain, but it could have been better interpreted.Overall its a great movie! But for those few questionable scene changes, 9/10!
lourensini So far I've never heard about wusu before. Martial arts movie just isn't my thing because they're all the same. What makes Fearless different and more interesting is because it's based in veridical facts.Fearless has its issues if we talk about what could be improved, but the important here is The Lesson. Jet Li's character Huo was a reckless child who grow up to be the greatest arrogant and superb wusu master of all time. And that's what drove him into ruins.Ascention, fall, and then redemption. Fearless teach us that the only way to fate your mistakes is by fighting yourself and finding the true meaning of this fight. The acting isn't bad, but nothing amazing, not even from Jet Li. The movie photography is clear and there's an amazing scene where the scenario passes through the four seasons that made me exclaim "what a nice picture editing!". I don't think I'll remember Fearles for it's plot, but it's well written and will keep you interested throughout the whole movie.Apart from that, fearless could be really better, just by excluding those takes where history is cutted off to explain us, what happened certain point of history. It seemed like directors was trying to save some time (and time is money). That could really be better and won't be that hard to do so.When watching Fearless, try to pay attention in the humility lessons, not only the history per se. You're gonna like it.
