Ensofter Overrated and overhyped
Odelecol Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
Loui Blair It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
Josephina Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
noradorian I'll be brief. I waisted too much time watching this, so I won't waist even more writing a long review. I gave a star because I liked the Cuba song, but that's it. For the rest, such a bad bad bad... EVERYTHING: casting, choreography, acting, directing...etc etc... I wonder what Patrick Swayze had to do with this pathetic imitation of a wonderful memory. They could have picked up another actor, same category with the rest just to fit with their script and leave Patrick S. alone. It was very very disappointing. I could watch "Dirty Dancing", the original one, endlessly ... but this Havana thing... I made a big effort to resist watching it till the end... If you want to see a good movie, pick up the first Dirty Dancing. Simply like that.
Leofwine_draca DIRTY DANCING: HAVANA NIGHTS, although a sequel to the '80s classic, is actually a prequel set in 1950s Cuba. Although I'm not the ideal viewer for these kinds of films (I gravitate towards horrors and thrillers) I found this to be an enjoyable piece of film-making.The political backdrop is eventful, and the character of Diego Luna (the actor already having come a long way from VAMPIRES: LOS MUERTOS) was sufficiently interesting to keep me watching. Romola Garai put in good work in both this and the same year's INSIDE I'M DANCING, while Patrick Swayze (RIP) inevitably steals his scenes in his extended cameo role.Perhaps not a wonderful film, but an engaging dance-drama with a interesting historical backdrop nonetheless.
sylus_5 If you're a die-hard 80's movie snob, then you'll hate this edition of Dirty Dancing. Its character relationships are rather underdeveloped, which is disappointing, and the script is certainly less than brilliant. That being said, if what you're looking for is a sweet love story with some sexy moves you'll be absolutely mesmerized by Havana Nights, I know I am! True, it throws most effort to make detail factual out the window, but it's still just so much fun! And to the people I saw complain about it being shot in Puerto Rico rather than Cuba.....did we forget that Cuba is an isolated communist island? Good luck trying to shoot an American film there. Garai is adorable, Diego Luna is so sexy it's ridiculous and overall it's just a really fun flick:) Also kinda cool that it's loosely based on the life of the writer
imogen-15 This is a film which takes you by surprise...in a good way! I had never heard of it, but caught it late one night on an insignificant TV channel - I was instantly hooked. It's a great film - visually beautiful, interesting romance, fantastic dancing - it really deserved to be more successful. It probably suffered from being the sequel to DD - would have been fine in it's own right I think. Don't be put off by the cheesy exterior - everyone I know who has seen it started out with uber low expectations, but ended up loving it. May I even venture to say that I prefer it to the original (shock horror!). I think it's the Latin thang. Mmm!
