Zentaurion This movie is a milestone in Hindi Cinema. It shows that Bollywood can match Hollywood in terms of churning out vacuous yet big budget action flicks. Nevertheless, while for now the audience may be divided as to cheering or jeering it, in years to come it will be celebrated in the "So Bad, it's Good" category, with an inane script and dialogue that draws out uninvited laughter. The only way to be entertained by it is to make fun of it to entertain yourself. But the stars have made the most of it and look their glamorous best here. Hrithik Roshan's charisma and looks carry the movie while Abhishek Bachchan's stoic hero gives grounding to the extravagant set-pieces. Aishwarya Rai gives the most atrociously misjudged performance of her career. What should have been more of a hot Michelle Pfeiffer-as-Catwoman role became a Halle Berry-as-Catwoman role. That's if Halle Berry mixed up her notes with Alicia Silverstone's for her role in Clueless. Bipasha Basu lends a hand in disposing of any credibility left to the story. Both look amazing though and Bipasha especially gets credit for not glamorising anorexia. The movie doesn't have the same infectious sense of fun that something like Main Hoon Na has but it's worth a watch as long as you keep one finger over the fast-forward button.
chrishend Not a lot to add to the other horrific reviews, except an enormous disagreement about the performance of pretty boy Hrithik the Horrific. Would've been nice if someone told him this was a movie and not an Abercrombie and Fitch ad. His continual mugging for the camera and never-ending "blue steel" looks were almost too much to endure. During the Russian Roulette scene I was praying for the gun to go off when Ash was holding it on him. Oh, and Hrithik ... Vanilla Ice is calling and he wants his moves back. Collaborate and listen! Other than having Ash to look at for a bit, I certainly feel 2.5 hrs closer to the grave with nothing to show for it. This was one of the worst "action" movies I've ever seen.
maros612 I find the Dhoom 2 title outstanding. I was amazed by the amazing picture full of perfect effects, good music, typically neat Indian humor, eye-candy cast, stunning scenes and choreography. I don't understand all the negative reactions I've read. Yeah, the story would not make this film legendary, but I had fun and enjoyed every minute of it. And I was watching with subtitles! I haven't seen the first part and am relatively new consumer of the Bollywood production, but I have no objections, it greatly overcame my not anyhow low expectations. I would recommend this movie to anyone who's not looking for a serious drama or something deep enough to think, but a good neat movie you can rest at.
Avinash Patalay Probably one of the rare instance where the successor is better than the predecessor. And yes, solely the credit should go Hritik Roshan for setting the screen ablaze with his electrifying presence. Truly he had added sheen to every frame he is present in. And yes, neatly providing hand-in-glove support is Aishwarya and in honesty the due credit should be given. The only disappointment is her performance which was "like" artificial, while on the other hand Hritik's perfection clearly left its mark. Jr. B was completely overshadowed by Hritik. I guess Dhoom 2 was Hritik's payback for Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon, and my my!!Uday Chopra is good in the edited role. Anything more would have spoilt the feast. His pairing was akin to 48 Hours, Lethal Weapon and Rush Hour. Bipasha's sole intention seemed to flaunt her figure which she succeeds. And the double-role was a pot-hole in the storyline.Rimi Sen's character was simply loud and should have been left out (just like Eesha Deol). In fact they should have borrowed the franchise idea from Munnabhai.Songs take a while to grow on you unlike the Dhoom where it was instant hit. Choreography deserves a special mention, and yes Vaibhavai Merchant proved she is second to none.Action sequences are well done. Noteworthy are suspenseful interplay between Hritik and Aishwarya & Hritik and Jr. B. Some good writing there indeed and remind you of Tarantino in Kill Bill.Indeed Dhoom had a great potential to churn it into a successful franchise sadly the politics it has run into mars the chances. Needless to say, if it were to go forward Dhoom II has definitely set the bar quite high.
