WasAnnon Slow pace in the most part of the movie.
FeistyUpper If you don't like this, we can't be friends.
Bergorks If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.
Fatma Suarez The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
gogoschka-1 As far as stories about crooked cops go, this is one of the best I've ever seen. A dark, violent thriller set to the backdrop of the race riots in L.A. after the Rodney King verdict, written by David Ayer. Kurt Russell gives the performance of a lifetime and should at least have been nominated for an Oscar. Great and terribly underrated film. 8 stars out of 10.In case you're interested in more underrated masterpieces, here's some of my favorites:imdb.com/list/ls070242495
Dusan Petrovic This is the example what simple can not do. I would rather say that character of Curt Russel in this movie was detective in West L.A. who'd been always trying to make a right decision in the situation. He was corrupted cop and responsible for his partner's death, but... He screwed everything; His boss, who was also dirty, but the man who gave him the carrier and reputation of the bad ass cop ho solved every case, was locked up, because he decided to do a noble thing and become the main snitch for internals. He was also ended in the jail, but in the end I don't understand the point.
Python Hyena Dark Blue (2002): Dir: Ron Shelton / Cast: Kurt Russell, Ving Rhames, Scott Speedman, Lolita Davidovich, Brendan Gleeson: Insightful and intelligent film about police corruption. The film opens with a reference to the Rodney King beating as a young rookie cop played by Scott Speedman is questioned regarding foul police conduct. Kurt Russell clears him leaving all satisfied accept Ving Rhames. Effective setup leading to focusing upon motives. Several people are shot during a convenient store robbery and director Ron Shelton bypasses a routine investigation for a character study. He previously made Tin Cup and Play It to the Bone but this is one of his greatest achievements. It is a film that not only deals with the subject of corrupt law, but it also demonstrates how sin can decay one's life from every angle. Russell is fantastic and full of sarcasm as a corrupt cop who realizes the consequences of his actions being told to burn in hell over his biggest mishap. Rhames is superb as he struggles to reveal the corruption as well as deal with private affairs. Speedman is fine as a cop searching for redemption. Lolita Davidovich plays Russell's wife who is on the verge of leaving him. Brendan Gleeson plays the commander who sets up a stage of events to bring this all out into the open. Great film about righting wrongs even though the wounds may not heal. Score: 10 / 10
Leofwine_draca Here's a decent corrupt cop thriller that has two exceptional things going for it. The first is an at-the-top-of-his-game Kurt Russell giving the kind of subtle, layered performance you only get from a pro; it would be so easy for his dark-hearted cop to be a caricature, but thanks to Russell he's far from it. Russell is one of those actors who make a lot of lightweight fare (BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, etc.) and whose genuine talents are sometimes forgotten about, which is a shame. Check out the monologue he gets to himself here - excellent. The second thing going for this is the backdrop of the L.A. race riots in 1992. A simmering undercurrent of violence runs throughout the movie, from the casual violence of the opening robbery to the bravura climax. The atmosphere is frightening, a perfect match for the ruthlessness of the cops who think they're above the law, and perfectly realised.Add in a taut script, a seasoned round of pros (Brendan Gleeson, Ving Rhames) and a fairly good performance from newcomer Scott Speedman and you have a solid, highly watchable drama.
