Kattiera Nana I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Abbigail Bush what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Anoushka Slater While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
James Wright How much you like this film will definitely depend on how much you are into the Victorian/Steampunk aesthetic, as well as the murder mystery genre in general. There is definitely nothing bad to report about this movie, it is a decent little crime noir set in the early 1900s.If there is a problem it is that it has no connection to the greater Batman/DC animated universe and could easily not be a Batman film at all, since outside of the character names themselves there is little to link the two. Batman only vaguely 'Batmans' outside of some grappling-hook action and minor detecting. It is certainly not one for those who like outlandish superhero action.Overall if you see this as a short murder mystery there is little to be disappointed by here, and if you crave a more down-to-earth Batman then this will be great for you. In my opinion you might as well just watch something like Zorro or Lone Ranger, or any other masked vigilante that Batman was based on as for me its 'back to basics' tone is just a little too basic, but it is certainly a matter of personal opinion in this regard.
anime-akuma I love this movie it mixwd up 3 great stories like Batman, sherlock holmes and Jack the ripper And the killing scenes done so nicely even batman beaten up so badly 3 times in the movie that made me realize that batman really is normal human witout any super powers. Selina was such a great felme character in this movie I like her a lot xD
Jack Fisher People seem to miss the point of this one, as they are expecting Batman to have superhuman powers, while forgetting that in the end, he's just a man.Sure the caped crusader is a skilled fighter, but if he'd be all powerful, then it won't be any good to watch. What good is a hero if he can't be in danger? This picture delivers us just enough suspense to make it feel believable. And let's not forget that this is 19th century Gotham, where Batman doesn't have all the usual gadgets that we are used to, and he's not an all skilled, jack of all trades warrior like in the modern setting, where you need superpowers or overwhelming numbers to stand up in a fight with him.The atmosphere in this is great, the pacing is also spot on and the ending is just a little less predictable, where it has left me guessing till the very end toward the reveal of the killers identity. This is a fresh take on Batman, and if you're a DC fan like myself, you should properly enjoy this one, and it's defiantly for a mature audience, so keep your kids away from this one.
waynemanor-39422 **very slight spoilers**The source material was heavily discarded when writing this screenplay. I like both the original graphic novel and this movie for very different reasons because they are very different. The killer in the book is quintessential Jack the Ripper, whereas the killer and the situation in this movie is an amalgam of Jack the Ripper and H. H. Holmes. The latter is the real-life serial killer, the tales of which spawned the inception of the book-to-be-movie The Devil in the White City. Bottom line: I liked what they changed/added, yet the core story is still excellent by itself. The only downfall to this film I would say is that the pacing is a bit iffy and if the movie is going to be Rated R, no sense beating around the bush. Show the gore as it is meant to be shocking to the viewer. Lastly, in my opinion, if they were going to make all the changes they did, they may as well have had a female put Jack down. It would have been a nice sense of irony for the chauvinistic marauder.
