Boobirt Stylish but barely mediocre overall
Stometer Save your money for something good and enjoyable
Chirphymium It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
AshUnow This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
random_jim This should be under the "must see" films before you die films! I watched it on the plane coming home from a vacation seeing some of the family abroad and somehow everything fell into place while reflecting on my time away and watching this remarkable film. The title says it all. The technology of our society says it all. The power of what one man's struggle to save his final masterpiece says it all... All the actors are to be praised, but the goosebumps literally came from Ed Harris! I've always been partial to some of his mean stream characters/labels in other movies, but as he has done before, he's proved his harsh screened tough guy scenes, but the soft, humbleness that comes out of his art, are just as, if not more more brilliant! You feel it all in this power ride movie of music, film, photography, love misunderstandings and family. It brought me to tears on many occasions, well I guess I'm at that age. My wife who was sitting next to me knew without her even knowing anything about the film that this is one for me! And again, it was, it is. Sensitive or not it'll make you smile, laugh, cry, rewind in awe. I'll be watching this one again very soon, no doubt! I take my hat off to the Analogue era of self reliance...xx With love and peace//Jim Andrew Georgiades
Peteandtess-676-823380 A quality story worthy of your time and attention. Yes this is a road trip where a father and son find each other across the great divide of time and where love is rediscovered and redefined. This is a quality film as in film means more than a movie and a photograph and photographer means more than an iPhone pearched on a selfie stick. Thank god the industry still finds time and talent to create something of value and thank god they still have an audience who appreciate it.
Alexander_Blanchett Heartwarming father-son Drama with some powerful Performances and great emotions. The Story is not new and neither are the character conflicts. Also the ending was rather predictable but all of this didnt hold the film back from making an emotional Impact on you. The acting is truly good. While Jason Sudeikis shines in an unusual serious roles it is Ed Harris who totally steals the film with his fantastic turn as the estranged father who on his last days wants to reunite with his son. Elizabeth Olsen also has a cute and charming turn as the good Soul who helps both to find the right Connection to each other. The film has a very good and atmospheric direction with beautiful Images, a very good score and nice editing. The screenplay may have deserved some more work, especially in regards of some of the cliches the film builds up but the acting and direction made up for these Errors. A very good turn from Netflix which could pull Ed Harris into some Awards considerations.... I hope he delivers more of that again in the near future.
dansview The lead actor, known for his comedy, carried this film. We've seen Ed Harris before as the edgy, aging cynic with a heart, and Elizabeth Olsen as the earnest intellectual love interest. But this was the first time most of us have seen Sudeikis in this type of role, and he was terrific. His character's world was falling apart, but he never lost his sense of perspective. He showed genuine appreciation for his aunt and uncle, acquired tolerance for his dad's flaws, and had the ability to notice the girl's true value. Meanwhile the Harris character had enough sense and compassion to devote his final days to his estranged son. Not an easy thing to do for a self-absorbed brat. Both characters grew.Olsen has found a niche for herself as the almost hot, intellectual, potential companion to complicated men. I liked the concept of integrating commentary on traditional photography and analog culture.Yes the plot was fairly predictable and there were no great statements about life that made a lasting impact. Other than that great art comes from unhappiness, but we've heard that one before, and it's not always true. I never even considered pressing the stop button. That's remarkable for me with Netflix. Enjoy.
