Intcatinfo A Masterpiece!
ChicRawIdol A brilliant film that helped define a genre
Borserie it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.
Zandra The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
Leofwine_draca ATTACK OF THE SABRETOOTH is another cheesy-as-hell Sci-Fi Channel special, a low budget monster flick in which a few poorly-acting cast members are hounded by a dodgy CGI creation which inevitably whittles them off one at a time. This one's an open rip-off of JURASSIC PARK, with the action set on a remote tropical island which is host to a new tourist attraction: genetically engineered sabretooth tigers. Inevitably, the beasts escape, with the usual ensuing bloodshed. This is as silly as it sounds and yet it's also plenty of fun, as is the way with these cheap 'n' cheerful B-flicks. The CGI animation of the sabretooth is just about passable, but eclipsed by an extraordinarily dodgy statue animation which looks like it belongs in a console game circa 1995. Why they couldn't have just built a real statue out of papier mache or something I don't know - it would have been ten times as convincing.Inevitably there are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments from the bad actors and the silly death scenes, and at least there's some low rent gore to be enjoyed here. The only slightly familiar face in the cast is that of Robert Carradine, the least well known of the Carradine family to begin with. The good news is that ATTACK OF THE SABRETOOTH is short and to the point, over before you have a chance to get irritated by it.
Paul Andrews Attack of the Sabretooth is set on a remote Fijian island named Valalola where the greedy owner Niles (Nicholas Bell) has invited lots of rich investors to his island resort in the hope of making them part with large sums of cash for a stake in his revolutionary Primal Animal Park attraction. Niles has developed a way to clone animals from DNA & in a moment of inspiration decided to clone some killer Sabretooth tigers which he intends to be the star attractions of Primal Animal Park & have people flocking there from the world over. Unfortunately inept security guards & resort employees means all the gates to the Sabretooth enclosure have been opened & thanks to some annoying American teens on holiday the entire security system is down after they decide to steal some things but don't want to be caught on camera. That all means the killer flesh eating Sabretooth tigers are free to roam the island & eat anyone they come across including Niles & his rich guest's...This Australian & American co-production was directed by George Miller (no, not that Goerge Miller who made the Mad Max & Babe films, the other George Miller who made the Dog befriends Dolphin 'comedy' Zeus and Roxanne (1997) with Steve Guttenberg no less) & is your typical terrible Sci-Fi Channel Creature Feature Jurassic Park (1992) rip-off that is maybe a little gorier than expected but no less stupid or dumb. Where do I start? Well, the beginning of Attack of the Sabretooth features a security guard reading a porn magazine, a page from which blows into the Sabretooth enclosure so he open the gate & wanders in to get it back but just ends up getting killed by the Sabretooth which serves the fat git right. I mean would you venture into an area full of killer Sabretooth tigers for a page from a porn magazine? The dumbness doesn't stop there either, from the character's to the not so special effects Attack of the Sabretooth works best as an unintentional comedy rather than a tense horror thriller. The character's are all uniformly dumb, the teens are just annoying while the guards deserve to die. To be fair to it the pace is decent enough & the kills were quite gory but that's hardly any recommendation for sitting through the rest of sloppy, badly made Creature Feature.Apparently intended to be some sort of sequel to the Sci-Fi Channel's earlier Sabretooth (2002) the two were written by the same guy & to save costs effects shots & GCI was reused from Sabretooth which says it all really. There's some alright gore here, a guy has his arm ripped off & he's seen staggering around spurting blood everywhere, there are plenty of bitten off severed limbs & decapitated head as well as one of the most ridiculous death scenes for a villain ever when a huge CGI Sabretooth tooth falls & impales Niles through the mouth in a scene that is so badly put together with awful effects & choppy editing it becomes strangely funny. There's no tension to any of the attacks or scares, a Sabretooth will just appear without any sort of warning & then disappear just as suddenly in some very lazy kill scenes. The CGI computer effects are predictably bad, they are truly awful at times in fact.I IMDb says this had a budget of about $2,800,000 but I really don't believe that, it looks a lot lower budgeted than that. Filmed in Lautoka in Fiji & while some of the aerial shots are alright the makers waste the scenery.Attack of the Sabretooth is basically Jurassic Park with the possible tourist attraction on a remote island made up of extinct creatures brought back to life through genetic scene that eventually cause all sorts of havoc & mayhem but isn't anywhere near as good. Standard Sci-Fi Channel Creature Feature junk.
ctomvelu1 I remember watching ATTACK when it first came out and caught it again recently. The sci fi channel has run worse, but not by much. A shameless ripoff of Jurassic Park, ATTACK substitutes sabertooth cats for dinosaurs. And they are on the loose, devouring as many extras as possible. The CGI is pretty bad, and closeups of prosthetic cat heads are laughable. We get some gore, which helps a little. Wait until you see how the mad scientist who started this whole mess gets it. Other than Robert Carradine, who has very little to do, the cast is unknown. Apparently this was shot in Fiji. Nice work if you can get it. Reminds me of all those low-budget monster STVs that were popular in the 80s and 90s.
stormruston Take "Jurassic park" and remove the acting ability of the cast, shrink the special effects budget to about 5 dollars, and take out any interesting parts of the plot and you have "Attack of the Sabretooth".Still I did enjoy this amusing "B" movie and i based my rating on other movies in this gutter league. The acting ranged from weak: the cast of teens, to pretty good : the "maintenance man", to over the top: the park owner and his ex brother in law.The CGI is occasionally cool. The gore is fun and a few of the death scenes fairly imaginative. If you are a fan of garbage gore B movies this one might be worth a look for you.
