Perry Kate Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
Nonureva Really Surprised!
Siflutter It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
Dana An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
jeffca Great! Another movie about life in Philadelphia that isn't shot in Philadelphia. Even better, the generally fine cast sounds like they're from Brooklyn. Is it so expensive to film in Philly that you have to go to Pittsburgh? For those who don't know, Phillly is, for the most part, flat as a pancake on a tilted table (excepting the Manayunk/Roxborough area) and the buses say SEPTA on the side. I mean, come on, you couldn't send a cameraman to the other side of the state for some B-roll footage?Pittsburgh is a great town, but it doesn't look anything like Philly.Other movies set in Philly not shot in Philly: • Devil (shot, I believe, in Montreal) • Baby Mama (New York) • Next Day Air (Los Angeles)Seems that the Philadelphia Film Council is really falling down on the job. No surprise there.
rifle12 Reading the cover the story seems un-original but with what seems a quality starring cast I viewed it without expecting much and upon the final scene I was right. First the use of Dennis Hopper and Val Kilmer whose parts totalled no more than five minutes, Val Kilmers character Murtha served absolutely no point what-so-ever and made me realise the only reason for the 2 big names was to give the film some oomph! The acting was good, and characters came across as believable and Giovvani Ribisi cast as a gangster boss broke the normal mafia mold. As for the rest of the film Brian Dennehy looks in his 70's, why would a man this old still be working frontline for the FBI? During the big gunfight no one ever re-loads their gun, Good guys are always winged in the arm or leg but still manage to hobble around in not much pain! Think how much a paper cut hurts not imagine a massive chunck of flesh gets torn away could you stand the pain and keep on going. I know this happens in most films but I'm looking for reality. On the whole average, average, average. Hire or buy Infernal Affairs or Departed instead
Jay Harris 10th & Wolf is the kind of film that I always liked, in fact year back I may have given this a much higher rating. This is a drama about loyalty, friendships, honour, family. What is different here is that all the characters are not very nice people, in fact some are downright vicious. This being said, the all were at least interesting,. The script by Howard Moresco & Alan Steele is well written & told, Howard Moresco also directed it.The cast is large comprised of newer actors & older veteran performers. James Marsden, Giovanni Ribisi & Brad Renfro have the leads, they are first rate especially Ribisi. Piper Perabo is the main actress in this film, & soon will have starring roles,Leslie Ann Warren, Brian Dennahy,Dennis Hopper all have good scenes, Val Kilmer has a small cameo, (I did not recognize him .For some reason, the story location is Philadelphia BUT was made in Pittsburgh. There is lots of violence & many people die. What would you expect from a gangster movie.. As I said this is a guilty pleasure film.Ratings: *** (out of 4) 86 points (out of 100)IMDB 8 (out of 10)
allenk752 Yes, over. Giavanni Ribisi "over"acts terribly. All the characters are "over"wrought." The dialogue is cliché-ridden and "over"written. There is an "over"abundance of "guest stars" like Val Kilmer (slumming in one quick scene) and Dennis Hopper (two scenes). To be fair, there are a couple of tense scenes and it was fun seeing rocker Tommy Lee mumbling his lines. But everyone is this movie is either a killer or a moron, resulting in a story in which there's really no one to root for. You too will be glad when this movie is "over."Rating: 4/10
