ActuallyGlimmer The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
Ariella Broughton It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
Kimball Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
ianlouisiana only the most the most po - faced could fail to enjoy this hymn to gun - toting psychopaths masquerading as a tribute if not a recruiting sergeant(if one were needed)to the British Special Forces. These indeed are men doing what a man has got to do,although the more faint - hearted amongst us might tremulously question the need to inflict so much collateral damage. As one who was sitting with a coachload of Old Bill outside the Iranian Embassy when the SAS did their thing 35 years ago I have the utmost respect for Regiment members in real life, aided by working with one ex - SAS corporal at an East London police station,a man who went out of his way to avoid confrontation, but,if it was thrust upon him,was not a believer in fannying about. He was as far removed from the "Ultimate Force" ethos as is possible. Frankly, the series is nonsense from Mr R.Kemp's petulant sergeant to the humblest trooper playing with his H&K. And yet.....there is something about these last defenders of a long dead Empire, ruthless, bloody - minded and ridiculously macho that I find entertaining in all its silliness. Yes there re moments of extreme violence, but only of the "Tom and Jerry" kind that we all know and love. Like a more - disciplined(relatively speaking) James Bond,Mr Kemp dispenses sudden death with a ready quip, using hands, knives, guns and for all I know a tube of "Smarties". However,he lacks Bond's success with the ladies, several of whom fall for the sociopathic side of his character only to be disappointed to find that what they see is what they get.A sociopath. There is even more silliness when the Force inexplicably gains a woman trooper who,of course is better than almost everybody else(except Mr R.Kemp) at fighting and killing and quite possibly can knit them some vests for the winter. I watched a re - run last night of an episode set in Africa where the troop despite being outnumbered by fifty to one rescue the boss's cousin's family on an unofficial mission. Not a thought was given to how any casualties they might sustain would thus be explained away, and of course there weren't any. This particular story had the huge benefit of featuring Mr J.Rawle who immediately gave it a depth and a touch of humanity rarely attained by the series in general. It was noisy, violent, simplistic and very violent and I loved it. It's what "Ultimate Force" is all about.
beabethompson I was actually looking for "Chris Ryan's Strike Back" on Netflixs when "Ultimate Force" popped up. Having seen bits of it on U-Tube, and knowing it was a Chris Ryan project, I watched it. Wow. As a fan of Andy McNab and other former SAS writers, I have a great admiration for their work and dedication to country."Ultimate Force" from the beginning seemed very cheesy poorly made for the money. Writing was incredibly bad.The second series ended very disturbingly, and so unrealistically, that I just gave up. While we know dangerous and incompetent officers have been fragged by their own troops, Hanno's murder of his superior officer (played by Richard Armitage in a pre-"MI-5", and "Chris Ryan's Strike Back" role) was a totally shocking mess. Yes, the man had been carrying own with a subordinate's wife, but killing him was both stupid and ridiculous. The jovial way they handled the officer's death and body was unbelievable. No one reacted to Hanno's "Man down" call, which should have triggered a huge reaction from his men. I assume Hanno had some help stuffing the officer's body into a refrigerator cooler, topping it off with soft drinks, then sending unsuspecting people to help themselves with to a drink. No one, including the dead officer's commanding officer, was respectful. Laughing over a dead SAS officer, who'd served his country, been the beneficiary of millions of dollars of training, is sickening. Then his subordinates had to be ordered to bag and tag his body. Really? They'd leave a fellow SAS member's body in a cooler in a foreign country? We never find out if the cuckolded SAS member ever mended his relationship with his wife, since he was written out of the show in the next season. A guy who meant so much to Hanno that the later killed someone who was having an affair with his wife? Oh well.
Thorsten-Krings Ultimate Force is a well made action/drama series that certainly pushed to boundaries as what can be shown on TV. It is well made, both in terms of drama and in terms of the action scenes. The ideology is sometimes fairly hard to stomach when -apart from normal commando routine- the SAS take the law into their own hands. That's beyond the realism of a commando unit and I sometimes found that hard to stomach. The format changed from 45 minutes episodes in the first two seasons to feature length episodes in seasons 3&4. With the exit of some popular characters a new twist was added: the troop was joined by a female soldier, Becca. This has been criticised as political correctness but one has to bear two things in mind: after the switch to a 60/90 minutes format additional elements to supply drama were needed and Becca's arrival fulfilled this need. Secondly, Ultimate Force is not a documentary but a drama series loosely based on the SAS, it was never meant to be anything but fiction. In fact Becca works fine as a character and her arrival is precisely not a point in case about feminism. Overall, from my point of view, the standard of writing got much better in seasons 3&4 as the new format allowed for more depth of character and more interesting / evolving story lines as opposed to the first two seasons where plots usually just revolved around one particular incident. All in all, it's rather entertaining and well made.
Michael Dillon This is surely the greatest show that i have ever seen, and most likely; the greatest you will ever see too! WOW.. Ross Kemp should win like a Nobel prize for this one! Or like a Grammy or something... Hammer fist! In the episode i was lucky enough to see of this grade A show, Ross went into Columbia (which was clearly filmed in england) with his superbly macho buddies (even the girl) and shot loads of people for seemingly no reason, Great! Then he hit some guy in the face and shouted Hammer fist! Fantastic... I don't understand this show fully, i believe the plot is just too deep for my comprehension, but the action makes up for the lack of understanding.
