BootDigest Such a frustrating disappointment
Platicsco Good story, Not enough for a whole film
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Invaderbank The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
bigverybadtom I remember how years ago, when PBS brought the show to the US for the first time, the "Eleven" magazine was playing it up and building anticipation. But when my aunt, my mother, and I saw one episode, we were disappointed.A Rosie O'Donnell lookalike becomes the Church Of England vicar of an old-fashioned English town, and she comes into inevitable conflict with its residents. The episode we saw had her talk with another woman about selling homemade stuffed animals to raise money, but those were terrible. Then she mentions having a musician named "Reginald Dwight" as a relative, and of course the vicar and everyone else assumes she meant Elton John, so the town puts up signs advertising an Elton John concert. But this "Reginald Dwight" turns out to be a wizened old man who is not Elton John at all, and in desperation, the vicar finds another celebrity to perform instead, offering her the bribe of allowing her to worship the Devil without having to worry about going to Hell. So we have our concert after all, though with a different celebrity performer. The show might have been funnier in Britain; we were hardly impressed or amused.
suemartin23264 The Vicar of Dibley had me in stitches when it was first aired in 1994. Now, I make sure to catch it whenever it's shown on TV. It never bores me! The First Series is very funny and I would recommend this to everyone. It's best to start watching this from the very beginning. This was followed by two specials : The Easter Bunny - which is hilarious, but also features the death of one of my favourite characters, and The Christmas Lunch Incident - which is definitely not one to be missed! After this, the sitcom gets seriously funny, what with the Comic Relief shorts and the final two Christmas specials - which are some of the best pieces of comedy ever to be filmed! In short, you'd be very stupid to miss this. The episodes are always aired now and again, so just catch one on the TV sometime, and I promise you, by the end - you'll be begging for more!
Duzniak38 The Vicar of Dibley is a rare British treat; a television show which is fresh and original. It follows the antics that Geraldine Granger encounters, when she becomes the new vicar in the small, cozy village of Dibley. Filled with hilariously crazy characters such as Alice, the dopey but lovable friend of Geraldine, whose mousy characteristics and childish charm is both heartwarming and fun. There is Jim; a stuttering old fool who usually gets into a pickle. There is Hugo, the lovable old oaf and son of David, the serious, stern man of the village. Each episode of the Vicar of Dibley is packed with outstanding comedy. Visual and spoken jokes are played out very well, in this well-rounded polished British TV gem.
Syl Dawn French who believed it or not turned down an O.B.E. (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) with her comedy and professional partner, Jennifer Saunders in 2000, is worth watching alone. She is one of the funniest women in the United Kingdom or worldwide. The show is funny and worth watching over and over again. I love watching Emma Chambers who is better known to audiences for her role in "Notting Hill" with Julia Roberts. As Alice, she is purely divine and innocently funny. The popular Liz Smith (not the gossip columnist from New York City) is better known to audiences as the grandmother and has appeared in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Oliver Twist" is also memorable for her role as Letitia. Why they took her away, I'll never know because she's still working at 85 years old. They have an Easter episode worth watching again and again and a Christmas episode that you won't believe. I don't remember the other cast members but Geraldine as the Vicar is one of the most memorable and familiar faces to have made an enormous dent in this British comedy. Forget Absolutely Fabulous, this show is absolutely fabulous and better than that show than it could ever could.
