Redundant and unnecessary.

One of my all time favorites.
Janae Milner
Easily the biggest piece of Right wing non sense propaganda I ever saw.
Kaydan Christian
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

The first show I have ever seen and thought... "Wait? These guys are the baddies???" But it totally works in a show were the line between police and criminals is so blurred NO ONE IS SAFE! This show makes any other cop show seem like an afternoon kids cartoon... I could re-watch it once a year. Some disappointments towards the end, but close to perfect.

Although I thoroughly enjoyed the series, almost start to finish, it has a heavy cloak of racism and misogyny covering it in almost every episode. Every black and Hispanic character is portrayed as weak, ineffectual, and cowardly. Blacks and Hispanics are the criminals and the whites are the good guys, even if they are completely corrupt and criminal themselves. We cheer for Vic Mackey through all of his sins, but we can't hold up even a shred of empathy for the minority characters be they cops or robbers.Hispanic David Aceveda is always two steps behind Mackey and his crew and allows himself to be raped by a thug. Claudette Wyms is impotent in the face of Mackey's abuses and ends up a weak, sickly caricature of a cop. Strapping recruit Julien Lowe is a self-hating homosexual and a bad cop. There isn't a single positive portrayal of a Black or Hispanic character in the entire six seasons. Coincidence? I don't think so. The negative stereotyping was relentless.Am I a Racist for Liking this Series? To answer my own question, I would have to say that I'm not a racist because the things I point out really bothered me and kept this series from being truly exceptional. Would it have killed them to have a couple of cool minority characters?I defy anyone to defend this show against my claims of racism.

Awesome show. I really loved this. The turn of the camera, the live "feel", and the acting and writing - top notch all the way.It was a street war. The Cowboys vs The Indians. The Police vs The Bad guys. Good vs Evil.Right? Wrong! The writing is terrific, and you'll have to decide where the good, the bad, and the ugly is. In a way, it mirrors (or creates?) "real" life ! Most TV shows are bland, because they will serve up the sludge of lowest common denominator. NOT THE SHIELD! ~The characters are great, just superb. The way the camera action brings to life the docu-drama feel really seems to give The Shield a tough and mean edge. The viewer is right there with the acting, and raw acting!, all the way. So, top draw, well done to the creator! And all involved.

I love these kind of series, and The Shield was not on my watch list before recently. However the shaky "modern cam work" really has to stop - period! Time is not favoring shaky cam movies / TV series well and you definitely see it now 10+ years later on The Shield. In series 3 it really got to the point I couldn't watch it anymore. Just got really annoyed because it was no longer "shaky" because of no tripods etc; now it was zoomed and shakes just for effects and a very cheap effect I might add..Hopefully this "phase" of camera work is behind us for future TV series like The Shield. I am really really unsatisfied by this because other than the camera work the series is a 8 / 10.
