Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

zkonedog There is no doubt that in this version of "The Langoliers", despite being a very serious Stephen King novella, the material is quite cheeseball and (at times) very over-dramatic. Yet, at the same time, the brilliance of King's story still manages to shine through thanks to some great acting and the direction of Tom Holland. For a basic plot summary (no spoilers), a small group of airplane passengers wake up and find the rest of the plane deserted. As they struggle to land the plane and figure out what is going on, they discover that the answer is beyond anything that has ever been seen or experienced before.First off, it would take a great sight more than a bit of 90s cheesy-ness to detract from King's wonderful tale. This is a wide-ranging story (from drama to sci-fi to characters to fantasy) that has something for everyone. Most of King's writing shines through in this adaptation. The acting, however, is what really drives this three-hour film. Great actors such as Patricia Wettig, Dean Stockwell, David Morse, Mark Lindsay Chapman, and Bronson Pinochet (among others) all provide new wrinkles to the overall storyline by portraying such a diverse cast. Is the acting over-the-top? You bet. But due to the diversity of the characters and their development, the craziness actually didn't bother me all that much. Perhaps this is because I "knew what was coming" having already read the story, though.Overall, having prior knowledge of the story, I enjoyed this take on "The Langoliers". While I would still recommend King's written work to get the full extent of the tale, this one will suffice for those who won't pick up a book.
ggallagher I remember hearing about "The Langoliers" 20+ years ago, but never saw it until it came on TV unexpectedly today (May, 2016). I felt I had to watch and almost from the beginning kept fighting the urge to turn it off. A plane lands at a deserted airport after hundreds on board disappear during the flight. What followed was one of, if not the, worst TV movies ever made. As tension started to build and "time" became the critical issue, EVERYONE seemed to have plenty of time to stop and then state the obvious, or kiss, or just stare at the horizon and basically waste "precious" time (which is funny seeing that time is what the film was basically about). However, like others here, the premise of the film was intriguing. That the past does not exist because it is destroyed and the future is empty as it awaits the coming of the present. I could go on about bad special effects, horrible dialogue, character stereotypes, etc., but give me a good episode of the Twilight Zone any day.
imnotsure-37008 Despite being low budget, this is one of the best Stephen King adaptations of all time. It doesn't win on acting, and certainly not on special effects but the intriguing story more than makes up for that. It was TV CGI from 1995 so lower your expectations for quality there. If you like hard sci-fi explored in original way, this may be the movie for you. Minor spoilers ahead. It explores an aspect of time travel I have never seen discussed before or since. It starts out on a red eye flight where most of the passengers seem to disappear with no explanation. From there the movie will keep you guessing. Back when this movie came out I was 10 and when it was finally revealed what the Langoliers are it really scared me.
Majid-Hamid Some people says that acting and FX are the main purpose in creating a good movie, but here, it was proved wrong. I have to admit that this movie are full of characters with bad acting, i mean all of them (except for Bronson Pinchot who gave an excellent performance as mad guy Mr Craig Toomey). But the worst goes to the little girl, the blind little girl who does not have any emotional feelings and not really up to the standard to what audience always wanted. And the FX is quite poor and cheesy, seems to be cartoons. It really looks funny to me! I wish it could be better in order to turn this into a great movie. But, none of these really affect the greatness of The Langoliers. The main purpose of why this movie is created is because of the storyline, the story written by the master of horror, Stephen King. And, the story are almost exactly accurate to the short story in 4 Past Midnight. The way the story tell us is very entertaining, until I didn't really focus myself on the acting and the FX. It is the story which keep me thinking and wait for what is going to happen at the end of the story. Even though the movie is 3 hours long, but it doesn't make me feel boring because the suspend is there. I'm gonna watch this movie again for the 10th times this afternoon :) forget about the acting and the FX, concentrate on the storyline! excellent (10/10 stars)
