Nessieldwi Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.
Glimmerubro It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.
Lucia Ayala It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
Ella-May O'Brien Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
Michael Ledo The story takes place on Little Tall Island...off the coast of Maine to no surprise to King fans. A stranger named Andre Linoge (Colm Feore) comes to the island needing a dentist, but instead kills old Martha Clarendon (Rita Tuckett) and watches her TV as two fronts come together as they are in for a "storm of the century." The stranger ends up in Constable Mike Anderson's (Tim Daly) jail...but strange things begin to happen and the stranger knows all of the island's dirty little secrets and is willing to share them with the whole town. He wants something to leave....This is rather a long film. As far as Stephen King and religious themes, I liked "1408" better. King did work a cameo as a lawyer on a flyer as he sometimes does. The phrase, "Give me what I want and I will go away" was eerily repeated, something King copied from himself (The Shining). Also King's other novel/character "Dolores Claiborne" is mentioned in this film, which took place in the same location. The film is actually a short story made long by King to develop character...everyone's character. As far as entertainment about a film with a stranger, the plebeian in me likes "Traveler" with the fat Val Kilmer better.
gavin6942 A small village off the mainland is about to receive a huge winter storm. It won't be just another storm for them. A strange visitor named Andre Linoge comes to the small village and gives the residents havoc. He knows everything about them, and when he tells the truth about one of them, that person denies it.There is some sort of connection between Stephen King and television, though I do not quite know what it is. Many of his films have been turned into TV mini-series. Some are quite good. "It", for example, is somewhat legendary, as is "The Stand". And then you get duds like "The Langoliers", which really should not even exist. This is in the middle, maybe more good than bad. In some sense, it has elements of "The Stand" or "Needful Things", with its villain who seems to be devil incarnate. Perhaps they are all the same character? But it may also have a weakness in being a mini-series. It might run too long and might be too repetitive. People will disagree on this.
LeDentalPlaque I was skeptical of this film when I first set my eyes on watching it with my boyfriend. It seemed long and drawn-out, and I didn't have much interest in watching a horror film for hours on end. When the first episode started, you were introduced to every-day life in the town and a murder that happened. But as the episode progressed, more and more mysteries popped up and into the second episode, a mysterious being emerged and made itself present to the town folk to demand something of them. This suspense was maintained throughout the second episode and into the third one, where there was a climactic ending. Overall, I'm glad I did watch it because it was enjoyable and suspenseful to the end. It didn't seem as long as it did, and well worth the watch if you're into mystery and horror. Good acting and highly entertaining.
Danny Weijs Starring Carson Manning, Tim Daly, Colm Feore and Debrah Farentino, King and Baxley pulled it off again! Most of King's adaptations directed by Baxley are extremely loyal to the book, therefore managing to capture the atmosphere in great detail, and so is this one. However, with Storm of the Century there is something rather special, because King wrote it as a script, and not as a novel. This makes the film experience even more intense when one has read the book/script (so if you haven't already, go and grab the book from your nearest bookstore and start reading! When finished, go and watch the film again, it's really worth a while). The Storm of the Century is a classic example of a semi-narrated film. But while most narrated films lack a touch of sense and deeper meaning, Storm of the Century does a great job in enlightening the film as it also contributes to the story telling, character building and the composition of suspense.Furthermore, the film doesn't only rely on King's story telling and Baxley's directing capabilities. It also consist of great actors and actresses whom do an excellent job, especially when one bears in mind that they aren't quite the biggest Hollywood stars around, to the contrary. Except for the character ''Linoge'' whom is played by Colm Feore, I was pretty unfamiliar with the cast. But then again, no problem there because they all did an excellent job! The film is actually presented as a TV mini-series because of its runtime; 240 minutes. However, one is advised to watch it as a ''normal'' extensive film.Having said that, I think it's correctly to state that The Storm of the Century is in the same league as Stephen Kings ''The Stand''. However, while ''The Stand'' is more of a vast post apocalyptic adventure between good and evil, ''The storm of the Century'' is more of a psychological thriller between ''evil'' and evil. As King is trying to elaborate; appearances may deceive. But you'll have to watch the film first to understand.Enjoy! 8/10
