Reviews

Scanialara You won't be disappointed!
Glucedee It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
Nayan Gough A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
Jonah Abbott There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
benjaminamorgan125 The show is dynamic and A.M.C. has made their biggest mistake ever! I can't say how angry I am to find out when coming to IMDb to see if there was going to be a second season and Smash... Nothing. A.M.C... I hate you. Bring Rubicon back, you had something good, bring it back!Characters are interesting and the plot is phenomenal. Although it has been stopped, please watch. This series will follow like Firefly, Doctor Who, or Star Trek. Never cancel a good show. Remember A.M.C., some people get their stuff online. Did you check to see the internet download rates? The torrents have more thumbs up than the average Dr. Who! I can't express enough how valuable this show really is and I want everyone to know. I want everyone to be angry at A.M.C. I want everyone to think about this show. And I certainly want everyone staying up late at night to watch re-runs of Rubicon.BTW... Rubicon is a reference to the Rubicon river, which Caligula 's army in 49 AD I believe crossed to go to a war. "Crossing the Rubicon" derives from this act and therefore means "to go with no return". Love the title!
canuckteach Rubicon is a well-crafted & unique suspense show which ran for 13 episodes on AMC, who produced the show using a very talented cast (albeit character actors or relative unknowns) and production crew. It was filmed around NY City in gorgeous HD, with imaginative camera angles and a nifty soundtrack, reminiscent of the sounds from the George Clooney movie Syriana. Like Syriana, it involves wealthy powerful businessmen and intelligence officers forging events to suit their own ruthless agendas. Our eyes and ears belong to young Will Travers (James Badge Dale), a brilliant young intelligence analyst who is promoted to a supervisory role at a think-tank called API, after his mentor meets with a mysterious death. API is run by Truxton Spangler, an old hand at the 'intelligence' game, who seems to be well-connected with the decision makers in the American military. The eccentric Spangler is portrayed by Michael Cristofer, a skilled, veteran character actor. Sometimes, he looks like he will stab someone, and other times, he can be quite fatherly. But, after a couple of deaths, and other bizarre events, Will begins to suspect that Spangler and API have their own nefarious secrets to hide. Sorting those out, and NOT getting killed, drives the plot of the series.API's niche is that they compile data from various intelligence services and offer an independent, non-biased view to the US government of how to proceed. But could this information be manipulated to benefit an elite group? Will Travers comes to think so, and along the way, he is protected and assisted by the mysterious Cale Ingram, who seems to coordinate the various teams at API - teams deliberately kept separated so that the full picture is 'blurred' to the underlings. Cale is played by an old favourite of ours, Arliss Howard, an under-rated actor who shone in the 80's sleeper mystery-comedy, Plain Clothes. Howard can mix friendly interest with a menacing glint at the same time, making you wonder if he will buy lunch for Will, or toss him off a tall building. No one is sure whose side Cale is on--he might be a good guy, but you wouldn't want to face him in a high-stakes poker game anyway.Other characters are twitchy, complicated, and compelling - the actors are allowed to 'run' with their lines and characterization, showing that AMC wanted to put on a real display of craft-not another lame conspiracy show, or a CSI-type cutout with wooden acting and stories. My measurement of a TV show or movie usually begins with the dialogue, and, then, what the actors can do with their faces. Sparkling, unique dialogue is - oh my - a real art form. You hear it and you say, 'wow - was that ever cool - never heard it expressed like that before' - doesn't seem that hard to write. unless the Network is cutting corners. You will love the under-stated speech and compelling expressiveness of the characters in Rubicon.
TombRaider09 "Rubicon" is by no means a regular television series. It's quite different from anything else on the small screen right now. But is the different in this case of the good kind? The promise of the pilot episode is that it is not, but taking into account the fanfare the short-lived series has received, a negative review of "Rubicon" will no doubt be met with hostility. It's the AMC cable channel's first new show of the 2010's. Clearly more of an experiment than an actual story, the pilot episode sets something or another in motion, but it isn't clear what. Someone dies, someone shoots himself or maybe they didn't.What we do know is that nobody in this world likes bright colors, as the series makes a depressing use of greyness. The characters are just as bleak and were they real people, they'd be medicated by now.In the pilot episode not much happens, not anything that makes sense anyway. For sure, these things will be explained in time, but there is no mystery or scene in the entire pilot that would function as a hook, to pull in the audience. Clearly, something must have worked for those who absolutely love this series, but just like those codes the agents try to crack in the story, the code of the pilot must be so well-hidden it will take a very unique personality to catch it.Whether the pilot will reveal itself to be something unique or just something extraordinarily boring will be a matter of very divided tastes, but there is no denying that the depressing mood of the series will be only for a limited audience.
Mark Riner I went into this show feeling like I must be its core audience. I was engaged with The Cryptonomicon, and my love for math and the eccentric has made me feel like cryptography is some beautiful land that I haven't achieved.I've had many occasions where my patience has been rewarded, and when every friend I have has left the room to seek out something more exciting, I sit alone, taking in the whole of the movie, and feeling a real emotion for it.That said, having watched the full season of Rubicon, I'm disappointed. It feels more like watching a cluster of conspiracy fear mongers running the show, and the illustrations of the characters as so 2-dimensional may be what drives me away. They may seem like real people, but I prefer to hope that people in our daily lives aren't that simple. The scenery is amazing, and the underlying plot is fantastic, with the show filled with nuances. But when a subtlety appears, the writers feel a need to smash the viewer over the head instead of letting them figure things out, because the viewer isn't expected to keep mental pace with the characters, and instead let all the work be done for them. The acting is atrocious, many of the cast fail to exhibit emotion, and the script feels weak.
