Solemplex To me, this movie is perfection.
ThrillMessage There are better movies of two hours length. I loved the actress'performance.
Plustown A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
Kien Navarro Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
anniepinchin Did you ever see such a bumbling bunch of so-called PIs? This show is banal in the extreme and offers nothing in the way of comedy or drama. In the fact dialogue is neither humorous or dramatic. The same theme permeates every episode; the main character gets hit in the head, kidnapped and beaten, bungles the job, his side-kick is a gibbering idiot who contributes nothing to the show or the storyline, suddenly everything is made good at the end and there you have the storyline for all seasons. Was it desperation or apathy that kept this show going for so many seasons? The upside is the beautiful scenery of Newfoundland.
taswavo999 Based only on 1.3 seasons I love this series. They were, tbh, fools to hold this from the world unless they already saw an end for it - I've not seen it all but the end happening a year or so after opening up to USA networks can't a coincidence.Anyway - a GREAT watch - and Lynda Boyd is SO very hot. Great fun - lots of drama and sadness and laughs - great mix. And set in lovely environment for a change - what's not to love.Acting is exceptional, direction beyond that. Dialogue has one or two 'would someone say that then' moments but half are clearly a joke - sad about the others.I've recommended this - and would to even those I don't know.Loving it so far
tricapbc It is difficult to believe that this show is written by professional writers. The scripts are terrible; the actors are terrible; everything about it is horrible. Truly pathetic. I would expect such drivel from US network TV, but it is very disappointing that Canadian fare is so bad.
j-monro I didn't know anything about this series before my wife stumbled on it on Netflix. I'm now in season 2 and watch one episode a week. The strengths of the show are the generally excellent and unforced acting, the pacing, the original, if sometimes rather far- fetched story lines, and of course the locale, St Johns, Newfoundland. Allen Hawco, as well as co-writing and co-producing the show, is one of the two main protagonists, father and son Doyle, private detectives. He's an accomplished and very good looking actor, plays the part of the son, Jake Doyle, with a nice line in comedic expression and action - there's an alertness and lightness of touch that's very appealing. His father, Malachy Doyle, Irish actor Sean McGinley, is pretty good looking too, a rather more restrained actor, with a nice line in wry asides, and the father son relationship is dealt with gentle humour and some pathos. They work really well together. Add in Jake's many love interests, first, his ex-wife (very well acted by Rachel Wilson)and then a particularly attractive policewomen , Lesley, played by Krysten Pellerin, and another rather sexy public prosecutor, and Malachy's more constant love for Rose (Lynda Boyd), the series has a backbone of developing relationships against the episodic nature of each adventure. Other characters are also well played. Des is a hapless comic foil and perhaps just too hapless/helpless for complete believability, but heck, this is crime comedy and Tinny the rebellious niece helps fill out the family dynamics. As a somewhat jaded septuagenarian, who watches very little TV, I can thoroughly recommend this series, I've remained very impressed with the sheer entertainment value of this series, and I look forward to renewing my acquaintance with the Doyles every week. What particularly comes across to me is that the actors in the show really seem to be enjoying themselves - I suspect they would have enjoyed many good parties as the series progressed.
