filippaberry84 I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Francene Odetta It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
bshljtbaruah80 Hats off to you Mr.Shoaib Mansoor for presenting us such a wonderful cinematic experience! After 'Khuda Ke Liye', this is yet another powerful evocation a sensitive social issue. The questions raised by the movie through the mouth of its lead character not only concerns a particular Pakistani or certain Muslim societies of South-east Asia but it pertains to average global society as a whole.Though the movie at some point seems to be 'overstreched' a bit (esp. in relation to its length) but it never diverges from its overall appeal even for a single instance. It maintains its rhythm throughout the length and that requires appreciation. Each of the actors has done full justification to their respective roles; however, Humaima Malik deserves special note of appreciation. All in all a NEVER TO MISS, MUST WATCH for everyone in hunt of some really good cinema.
Usman Syed Believe me guys this was one of the movies that i had been dying to watch. When I watched it,it turned out to be a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!!.First of all the acting in this flick is somewhat between bad and average.Atif Aslam made a fool out of himself starring in this movie I mean the guy is a singer not a actor so don't star him in movies.Second this movie is really racist...it clearly points out that all "Pathans" are gay..which in my opinion is very racist.Third this movie is certainly not a family movie you cannot watch this movie with your little brother, sister or your parents. This movie is supposed to convey a serious message but some how it kept me laughing at every scene no matter how serious the scene is.The first one Khuda ke liye was a good movie although it also had some anti Islamic views the story was really good but this one just goes down the drain.....
Zabi Khan Bol is a story of a daughter who defies her father and the society that treat women as lesser beings. Bol clearly brings to light the status of women in developing countries that brags about equal rights for men and women. Bol has a gripping narrative as it showcases the struggle, agony and the determination of a family to survive against all odds. The film primarily objects to the idea of reproducing human beings into this world (blinded by faith and self-centered intentions) without taking complete responsibility of their existence. Concurrently it also highlights the regressive attitude of a male-dominated society that offers no liberty to woman in choosing life-partner, refusing reproduction, gaining education or working independently. At several instances, the movie smartly underscores the irony of life. Here, good performance by Humaima Malick (Zainub)who portrays the angst of a girl who itches to do the right thing is and Manzar Sehbai(Hakim),who is stellar in his performance as a hypocritical man.A rock-concert number by Atif Aslam seems somewhat out of place in this film. Also the entire media circus and bureaucratic drama surrounding Zainab's death sentence could have been avoided. But there is so much and more that the film explores that you can ignore about the flaws.Bol sends out a message demanding equality and exposes certain grave issues plaguing our society and is bold attempt to portray the ugly truth. A must watch.
chris-chasely I have not enjoyed Pakistani movies in the past and was very skeptical about watching Bol, which turned out to be one of my favorite movies of all times! This movie had a story line that was unique and the acting by the female cast was fantastic. What a transformation for Pak movies from what I recall in that even a taboo subject is depicted so well. Other reviewers have found faults, albeit constructive, with the movie making aspect, but these minor things do not affect the movie at all. In fact, Bol has surpassed my expectations so much, that I give it a top rating of 10, more if that was possible and definitely more than any Bollywood movie, which I watch less often nowadays because not much has changed and the reality aspect is zero. Really, Bol should and must be entered for an Oscar and other festivals because it has a lot of potential. My congratulations to the producers, director and cast for a job well done.
