Ensofter Overrated and overhyped
KnotStronger This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
Ezmae Chang This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Freeman This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
ShelbyTMItchell Really cute show of the 1980s. As it premiered on NBC back in 1982. As it featured future Golden Girls Betty White and the late Rue McClanhan. As the show was really funny when it played up on family and Southern charm. But Vicki Lawrence is the real star of the show. As she dresses in a wig and acts like an old lady. As she plays the cranky yet with a heart of gold Mama. She comes off with both wit and charm. And also you like her despite being the way she is.Still the show was funny and also had a great ensemble supporting players backing up Lawrence. Remembered this while living in Fla at the time!
DaysFan79 As many people have stated, this show did not try to solve any major problems or tackle any serious issues, it just made you laugh!! It was simply good, clean, insulting humor at its finest! Some things may have been a little 'over-the-top' but that is what made it so funny to watch. An old lady doing the kind of things Thelma was doing was not typical but who wants typical? All the characters and actors were very likable people as well. As an aspiring actor, this is one show I could only dream of working on. I would watch the actors in their scenes, and I could see them trying so hard not to laugh at themselves, however, still never breaking character. That is when you know the cast is having a blast at what they are doing! I'm so jealous! I have said over and over that Vicki Lawrence and this show as a 'whole' were very underrated. I have never seen a show as this one that has literally made me laugh out-loud! So in my book, this show is pure gold! While there were certain episodes in the first two seasons I enjoyed, it was the syndicated years that I loved the most. Sharp-tongued and sarcastic Thelma, dim-witted Mama's boy, Vinton, his floozy, dumb-blonde wife Naomi, the juvenile, turned-good grandson Bubba and the nosy, prissy, craft-wielding neighbor Iola that would give Martha Stewart a run for her money, made this show one of the funniest shows I have ever seen! I grew up to this show and still love it to this day! It's really a shame the new generation of young adults have to be subjected to the 'crud' (for lack of better words) that's on TV today. I don't really care if people have anything bad to say about it. It's a matter of opinion really. Everyone likes different things. The people that dislike this show like things that I think are just as bad, but I don't get onto websites comment pages and bash the heck out of them. Grow up people. I wish we could all be in an equally dysfunctional family like the Harpers. I also hope I'm half as feisty and full of sarcastic-flare as I am now when I reach Thelma's age. The one thing this show does teach is that age is just a state of mind. Thru the years, Thelma rode on a wrecking ball to save her house, wrestled two fat women in a bee-suit, boycotted a grocery store that sold sleazy magazines, became first runner-up in a Grandma USA pageant, ran for mayor and won and proved that you are never too old for romance just to name a few things. I can't wait for this show to be out on DVD! It's rather insulting that TBS chooses to only air this in the wee hours of the morning. I could think of a few other shows that deserve that kind of treatment, but not this show! 'Mama's Family' is a rare, comedic gem that you will not find anymore so please check it out! It's definitely worth it!
ucdc "Mama's Family" has become so addictive that my "body clock" awakens me each morning before 5:00, at which time I view currently the best family show rerun. It's too bad that that the cast isn't regrouped to have this wonderful show live again.Needless to say, it would be "dead in the water" without "Mama" but the others are just icing on the cake. I love all of them, and have visited their biographies, but never learn all I would like to know about them.It seems hopeless that Vinton will ever wise up, but of course it would of necessity eliminate his "peachy" wife. The show would be lacking if it were not for Viola, whose twittering makes one anxious for her next comments.IS IT POSSIBLE FOR THE SHOW TO RESUME AS A CURRENT PRODUCTION?
allen018 ..Mama's Family is by far the best t.v show in re-runs right now..of course it's good clean fun...and it's hilarious...but lets face it .. the characters are perfect,Vinton plays a great Mama's boy...& Naomi could not have been better for Vint...the loose ,floozy type is the perfect contrast to any old fashioned grandmother, the fact that it's Mama is priceless.....Now any fan knows there are 2 different mama's family shows....pre Bubba, and post Bubba....watching Bubba's character develop is such a great transformation ..he not only becomes a good actor, but a great addition to the show...along with Iola..Borlyn,(I think that's right,no D at the end).. ...I have seen every episode at least 5-6 times, and i continue to tape the episodes off tbs in the AM..at this point I must have 25-30 tapes with every episode 3times over ,just in case they don't wise up and ..PUT THE SHOW ON DVD ALREADY!!!!..well I know I'm safe ..and if I wear out my tapes...I got plenty more.... ..there is just something about the show that makes my day start out right,2 episodes of Mama, and I'm good to go ,until tomorrow...and I love watching and thinking to myself ,what a great show that has stood the test of time,easily...how funny is it when Bubba wears the tee with his name iron-ed on the front in the 80's glitter ...and the true viewers know the episode where mama says.."no,at my house when the phone rings I run in circles yellin what'll I do ,what'll I do,what'll I do!!! GOTTA LOVE MAMA,and my mama t-shirt gets more compliments than any other tee I own...I have so much more to say but I'll quit now..as long as it airs I'll watch ..and when it 's pulled I'll probably watch more...thanks
