WillSushyMedia This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
RickyTheFish I have to admit, I did enjoy this show, despite what I am about to say about it. I think this show is two different things: first, a travesty; second, a decent show. I know these opinions conflict, so some explanation is due. This show is based off the books in the Sword of Truth series, authored by Terry Goodkind, and even had the author consulting with the writers on the show. However, this being said, the show has very little to do with the books, and fans of the books will notice the huge, unnecessary changes. For example, in the books, Richard's father George had the Book of Counted Shadows, and forced Richard (in his childhood) to perfectly memorize the contents of the book before it was eventually burned. In the series, Kahlan simply gives the book to an adult Richard that has never before heard of it. Also, Richard's mother in the book was Zedd's daughter, a woman who was raped and impregnated by Darken Rahl, crossed the Boundary and married George Cypher. In the series, Richard's mother was some unnamed young girl that died in the slaughter in Brennidon, and Zedd carried her child alone across the Boundary; George married a woman that was not Richard's biological mother. In the books, Darken Rahl raped Zedd's daughter, thus Richard was his son, but in the show, Darken Rahl is Richard's brother. Wizard Giller was a kind and noble wizard in the books, even sacrificing his own life to protect the Box of Orden (and its carrier, Rachel) from being found; but in the series, Giller is Darken Rahl's personal wizard, and thus contributes directly to Rahl's evil actions. So much was changed between the two forms of media that they are practically unrecognizable as being the same material. That being said, the show does have its own merits. A decent fantasy title with all the normal mainstays: magic, epic battles, betrayal, deceit, love, honour, loyalty. To someone unfamiliar with the books, the show can stand by itself as an enjoyable experience, but for someone that read the books before watching the series, it might be a bit of a challenge to overcome all the ridiculous changes. I was initially very excited to see a live-action adaptation of a book series I love, but I had to separate the two in my mind and think about them as two separate entities, otherwise I likely would have hated the show.
johdan0517 To be honest,i have read the book series of 25 books (in Swedish), about 3-4 times, and i am really disappointed. They could have done it so much better considering cast and story wise. Only thing that i really liked was Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander tho they found a actor who fitted the role really well. But Khalan and Richard was really bad to be honest.
tanaelittle03 I really love this TV Series. It's Drama, Adventure, and Action. Etc. I am only 11 years old, and I love these series. They are absolutely remarkable! I watched all of the seasons. I don't know why you all couldn't make a third season, but whatever reason, this is the best movie series I have ever watched. I really think every body who watched these series really love the way the love between Richard and Kahlan, because I do. Whenever I seen the case of the second and final season I thought Richard would fall in love with Cara, and Kahlan would get jealous. But it surprised me. I like Kahlan, by her personality, and Cara by her Mord's ways and just the way that character is! One day I hope I can be an actress. It must be hard to be Austrailian and play a part with a American ax-cent. I really love this, as I said before. If it isn't to late I wish you all could make a third season. If you all go by ratings, you have a lot of fans, don't let them down! Surprise us!
Karen Wolf OK - so I will admit that I have read this series. It isn't ground breaking fiction and the whole prophesy/boy discovering his destiny and becoming a man trope has been done many times before and with more skill. Still, the characters are interesting, the dialogue is good too. It is entertaining.Which is a lot more than can be said of the TV series.Given the source material is hardly going to win a Pulitzer, I was prepared to be pretty flexible. It was a Sunday night. I was bored and looking for something to while away the time.Where to begin with this TV adaptation? I don't mind that it was not slavishly serving the books. Such changes in arcs and stories are necessary - it is why these things are called adaptations. A lesson the Twilight film script writers failed to grasp. But there was a problem with everything. Aside from the costumes. Mostly. The scenery was great, but I'm pretty sure I saw parts of Bree used a few times. The acting was atrocious. I'm still trying to figure out whether they were trying to make it worse than it needed to be or not. I say that, because the scripted dialogue had me grinding my teeth. It was horrid! So, the actors had little to work with by way of script and acting skill. Pretty sure some of the local NZ extra's have been seen before too (in full orc/goblin makeup). All in all I found myself repeatedly hitting my head. It was like a train wreck - made my stomach churn and yet I could not look away. Why? Because I kept waiting to see if it could get any worse.Short answer: it can and it did.A horridly written, terribly acted adaptation of middle of the road epic fantasy. A bit like soggy toast.Utterly. Unappealing.
