Excellent but underrated film

After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

First I have to say my main reason for this review is Robert Naylor's acting is so bad I almost quit watching the series! Who cast this kid? I get the character is meant to be an obnoxious child, but bad acting is just annoying, but not in the way I think they wanted the character to be perceived. On a more general note, the series started out pretty promising, I am just about to finish season 1. But it slowly starts to descend into utter nonsense that drags on. There are a few episodes where nothing even remotely significant happens.

I like thoughtful, complex science fiction series that tell interesting stories and show great imagination. I really wanted to like this. But it turns out it was basically a one-note zombie story that had a lot of just plain stupid plot complexities and twists that seemed to be used just to fill out the season contract of 13 episodes. They introduced new characters and story lines willy-nilly - probably as they ran out of ideas. I couldn't even stomach the thought watching season 2.

To start off with the good, I will say that the show "sounds" very appealing (deadly virus outbreak on a massive secluded base in the arctic). The general setting/premise is solid. The show fails however in many facets. The acting ranges from mediocre to sub-standard, though I don't blame the actors. While I can't say I enjoyed any of the performances, The writing is where the show falls apart. If you tasked someone to find a team of writers to do a project, but instead of doing any work finding the right writers, they just hired a football team (no offence to football teams here), you would have the quality of writing in this show. The characters typically do not act rationally (rationally referring to how a person might normally act under the same circumstances). Conflict feels like it is created on the spot, and often leads to very unrealistic sequences of events. The show has poor dialog, and very undefined characters (their personalities seem to change radically without a proper basis as to why).I could go on, but I would like to end on a positive note.Despite having it's serious flaws, you may find yourself still willing to endure this series. It has mystery, it has action, it has zombie-ish themes, and from time-to-time has a few moments.

The storyline seems fine in the first 2 episodes, and I could put up with the average acting, but some stuff the characters did was too much too bear.1. A CDC scientist pretty much starts rubbing nosies with a diseased monkey before it predictably lunges at her face 2. One unarmed guy starts crawling in air ducts in chase of a violent infected scientist before he predictably lunges at his face. 3. CDC scientists have a violent encounter with quarantined people, so what do they do when they need to re-enter quarantine? 2 women go in alone and unarmed, and predictably it hits the fan.Couldn't take any more of it at that point.
