Synopsis

In a futuristic world almost barren of life, mankind is confined to mechanized domed cities where A.I.’s control all aspects of life. In this world, humans are no longer born, they are manufactured in a production line; and alongside them live androids known as autoreivs. Within one of these domed sanctuaries named Romdeau lives Re-l Mayer, one of a few citizens who aren’t entirely prevented from thinking. Her grandfather's prominent position and the affection of the scientist Daedalus have left her more free will than is normally allowed, but Re-l has started to question the sanctity of the city and the citizens' perfect way of life. With mysterious beings known as proxies causing havoc and a man named Vincent causing great influence on her life, Re-l must travel outside of the city to find the answers she seeks and discover the mystery behind "the awakening".

Pacionsbo Absolutely Fantastic
TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
Brendon Jones It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Hayden Kane There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
sunny12021994 Yes, i like to think, therefore i am. This show kept me at edge of my seat until the last episode. Last episode confused me but i understood after a lot of thinking, and it amazed me. Here i can explain it for you , in short. Everybody in Romdeau is not human.. They are sub-humans ,i.e. near-humans made by womb created by ergo proxy. Every dome has a womb, and a proxy. Sub-humans cant reproduce. Earth is doomed due to methane gas overload in environment. Real mankind left the earth to save themselves. If they try to reproduce without artificial womb, they would end up like those creatures in cave. Real mankind made 300 proxies to conserve life or sub-humans (as a second option, if humans don't survive in space) or at least autorievs with cogitovirus. Then they go to space to save themselves.Cogito virus is safety valve for real humans(in space), in case they die out there. But, as sunlight has arrived and mankind survived in space. There is no raison'de'tre left for domes and proxies. Proxies can destroy everything on earth to leave a safe place for mankind to begin with. Proxies die in blue sky, but vincent will not die as he is incomplete. It is'nt clear whether what will he do to punish creator(mankind) for all suffering he has faced. Suffering is because , mankind had given proxies the soul, so that they become lonely forever and kill themselves till humans arrive. Proxies are programmed to kill each other , be lonely, and do suicide, or die under sky, so that mankind will face no resistance from them afterward. Besides the awesome storyline, this show is thought provoking too. I would highly recommend this to you. I want more of this MANGLOBE!!!
Tweekums Set in the distant future this series is centred on Re-L Meyer; a member of the 'Citizen Intelligence Bureau' who is investigating a series of brutal murders. It is believed that they are being carried out by robots, known as 'auto-reivs', that have been infected by the Cognito virus which gives them self-awareness. While investigating she comes across a powerful creature that she learns is called a 'Proxy'; determined to discover what it is she follows immigrant Vincent Law as he leaves the domed city of Romdo. He has lost his memories but believes he can find out about his past if he goes to his old home; another domed city so he heads there along with Re-L and an infected auto-riev called Pino.If you are looking for a fast paced action packed series then this is not it; the pace is slow but this serves to allow the viewer to soak up the atmosphere and get immersed into the story. The animation looks stunning; giving a sense of beauty even to the desolation we frequently see. It also blends 3D elements with the 2D almost seamlessly so it didn't jar at all. As the series progresses we gradually learn more about the world we are watching; from the different nature of humanity to the mysterious Proxies. The three main characters are interesting; Re-L has a fragility that we don't usually see in a female protagonist; Vincent is mysterious and conflicted and somewhat surprisingly young auto-riev Pino feels the most human of all the characters. While these three are the main characters the secondary characters are also well fleshed out. Overall I'd say if you like your anime dark and dystopian you should love this. These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.
Haris Krupalija Ergo Proxy is one of those things (including everything in the world) that will make you go "What the f**k?" I want to say this at the very beginning: This show isn't for everyone. If you are a fan of Naruto/Bleach and like mostly action based anime with some or none major questions, you are best far away from Ergo Proxy. Some will say that the show is as slow as the Slowpoke from Pokemon franchise, but it is simply the best way to make these types of show. Just as with Steins;Gate, at the first half you are introduced to at least trillion questions you can't answer. And just when you think you've reached your limits, the answers slowly begin pouring out. And, after all is said and done, you are just sitting there and thinking "Well ... f**k". Ergo Proxy is a wonderful masterpiece - from the art, characters, sound and the very story, everything fits extremely well. After re-watching the show, you will actually notice that all of the answers were right in front of you from the very beginning - it is simply due to fact that we rarely pay attention to details during the beginning of a series that you couldn't grasp it all. If you hate shows without 'OMGWTF THEY BLEW UP THE MOUNTAIN WITH JUST WINKING', then you shouldn't watch Ergo Proxy. Despite of its dark nature, gloomy appearance and particularly anguishing revelations, Ergo Proxy brings forth dozes of questions about life, society and the very human nature. It borrows themes from the famous philosophers of the past, brings up the questions that are best avoided and it makes you think - yes, it will make you think. I can't say that everything in this show is perfect - nothing is perfect for perfection does not exist - but this is one hell of a masterpiece. I didn't find it boring - never. Not even during those 'filler' episodes or at its beginning; somehow, I knew everything makes sense even though nothing made sense. There are a lot of questions left unanswered and that is why I'm hoping there will be a second season of this show - if there is, I'll watch it even if I have to move to Japan and learn Japanese language. 10/10.
Ecrivon This series is wonderful. Though I cannot explain the storyline, for it is very intricate and I do not completely understand it myself, I can recommend it. If my word is not enough, consider that it is done by the same team which did "Cowboy Bebop", "Wolf's Rain", and "Samurai Champloo" - all wonderful shows. The characters are quite developed and it contains a rich plot. I do warn that if you are not a fan of having to think about something you watch, this is not the show for you; it can be very confusing at times and requires a deal of brain power to understand. If you do not take the time to attempt to understand it, by the first few episodes you will be lost, just a few more before you'll want to give up on the series. But, if you are one who enjoys thought-provoking works, I'm sure you would enjoy this.
