Synopsis

Dark Skies is an American UFO conspiracy theory-based sci-fi television series that aired from the 1996 to 1997 season for 18 episodes, plus a two-hour pilot episode. The success of The X-Files on Fox proved there was an audience for science fiction shows, resulting in NBC commissioning this proposed competitor following a pitch from producers Bryce Zabel and Brent Friedman. The series debuted September 21, 1996 on NBC, and was later rerun by the Sci-Fi Channel. Its tagline was "History as we know it is a lie."

Wordiezett So much average
InformationRap This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
Tayloriona Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Brendon Jones It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
this_is_Nuh Great story, plot, and acting. Too bad it was so short.. could have been a great big series. Harsh Realm, The Invaders (Mini), and American Gothic are all examples of these series that are better than most others, but are not given a chance. Dark Skies was one of the best Sci-Fi shows.
lot49 This show seemed driven by its art direction -- which, unfortunately, was flawed by too many anachronisms. The sets, props and costumes were a post modern hodge-podge of items from different decades. As someone who lived through the era depicted in Dark Skies, the art director's errors detracted from the story. I suspect that the show's "look" was fabricated by a Gen-Xer who only possessed a superficial sense of how people dressed and lived in the early 1960s. The dialogue contained too many 1990s idioms, so I could not forget that I was watching young actors pretending to be characters from another era. It was distracting to hear a pop song from 1967 ("For What It's Worth") played during a scene set in 1963. If the plots had been less predictable and better-developed, I would have been more forgiving. Sci-Fi requires suspension of disbelief. If I have to work too hard to believe what I'm seeing, I won't enjoy what's on the screen.
rux-2 Finally, we had something going...something that looked like it will stand a chance in front of the X-Files. I did like this TV serial. It really sucked you in to it...in to the story. And those who like this kind a UFO and conspiracy movies, this was a great TV series. The story takes place in the `50s and `60s and the way the alien and guverment conspiracies are put together,in this TV series, it is really great. Too bad that this series ended all of a sudden...and of course, when it actually started to became more and more interesting. I guess, it all comes down to money. Too bad, cause i think there are lots of people out there who would like to see more of this movie, or at least, finished up properly. If you just get a chance, don`t miss it and also you can compare it the already boring x-Files.
Novanut Dark skies i felt was an excellent sci-fi type series. It 'sewed' together so many elements of our past history during the late 50's and 60's with the UFO landing/crash of Roswell, New Mexico. A government agency was trying to cover up facts of a meeting between government officials and aliens. an ex-agent with that agency was trying to find more facts to expose everything about this conspiracy. There were only a handful of believers and one included Bobby Kennedy, (brother of the president) in which JFK's assassination was part of this UFO conspiracy...well...enough said. the series was off to an excellent start but must not have had enough interest by viewers since they cancelled it abruptly and they had to conclude the series in just one show and it was very poorly done. this series i think will be a classic and should be brought back and finished correctly. All in all it is an excellent series and is coming back in re-runs on the sci-fi channel!
