Twilightfa Watch something else. There are very few redeeming qualities to this film.
Taraparain Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
Aiden Melton The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
Kien Navarro Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
StuOz Seven escaped criminals, "Blake's 7", steal a spacecraft that escapes the "law".An essential part of my childhood, better acted and scripted than Battlestar Galactica (1978), but not as good as Star Trek (1966).These days it is rather normal for a complete bastard to have the lead in a TV series but back in 1978 we only got that situation in soaps like Dallas (1978). This is partly what made Blake's 7 so special to me back then, in the last two seasons we had the cold blooded "Avon" take command of the ship and having such a creep as the star of the show was a massive draw-card!Blake's 7 is one of my very favourite British TV shows ever but I think the reason it is not included in my Top Ten TV Show list is that cast members keep vanishing as early as season two (we got a new Travis this season after the first/better Travis left). And, frankly, the last two seasons has a couple of really annoying new cast members to fill the gap left by Blake. This series shined best in the first season of 13 episodes. Everything from the cast to the scripts was spot on at the start. But the whole series is still very watchable, even if I sometimes cringe at some of the actors who joined the show after season one.
Michael A. Martinez This BBC sci fi show shall inevitably compared with Doctor Who for a variety of reasons. For one, most of the crew is the same, the same producers, directors, writer, Dudley Simpson on music (which really shines here) and costumers. Even a lot of the guest actors and extras are familiar "Who" veterans... and the special effects and set design are all quite similarly low-quality but still imaginatively constructed.Overall though this film is much more sharply-written and consistent than Doctor Who ever was, besides maybe a time earlier in the 1970's when Hinchcliffe was in charge. Although characters like Villa are presented semi-comically, this series is much more serious and usually a lot more action-packed (almost every episode works in an amusing slow motion miniature explosion) and even with some surprisingly deep, cerebral scripting now and then. The acting from the main players is top-notch as well with Paul Darrow totally stealing ever scene he's in as the supremely uncharismatic character "Avon".While I'm on it - I'll have you know that I love the characterization on this show. Everyone has plenty of strengths and weaknesses. A few of the characters came off as weak overall - such as Dayna and Soolin from underdevelopment... Gan was a bit too simplistic... and Tarrant underused, but overall the character interplay was quite entertaining... particularly when Avon would butt heads with Blake (the leader in seasons 1-2) and later Tarrant. This series certainly undergoes a transformation from season 1 to the final season 4, but always maintains a good continuity and a certain level of quality though the standards certainly waiver in a few of the episodes. It's certainly nowhere near the drop in quality as seen in season 2 of SPACE 1999 or season 3 of STAR TREK. This show is in a class of its own - imaginative sci fi which plays things straight and manages to tell a good story, and reasonably efficiently at that.
Dave Jones I am a big Sci-Fi geek. I have learnt to accept this, nay I have learnt to embrace this. A show called Blakes 7 has played a big part in this revelation.Dr Who and Star Trek don't come close to this. Way ahead of its time and indeed this time, Blakes 7 remains a timeless piece of television costume sci-fi drama gold. The premise is fairly simple, a glorious mixture of anti-heroes and anti-villains struggle in a hopeless and oppressive tech-no-coloured universe. Not enough superlatives exist to compliment the performances of Darrow (genius), Thomas, Pearce, Keating, Grief and Barber. The music and graphics are gloriously executed, the costumes are outrageously beautiful. Even the heavily criticised production values and sfx add to the charm of this show. The series develops throughout the four series run to the final and best 1981 season. This culminates in the greatest episode and finale I have ever witnessed.Don't underestimate the power of B7, it is the best! Additional: Glynis Barber's is hot stuff and has an amazing bottom!
phuture-1 I was 8 when i first saw this A show called Blake's 7 and Blake is hardly even in it. Through fate and misfortune, that in itself is sheer class.Avon , master of dark wit and sarcasm Servalan , erm , yes please , she introduced some very dark conceptsat perhaps too early an age :) Orac, way ahead of its time, we only just started getting transparent boxes for our pcs recently. The best noise ever from a computerSets are cheap, and i kinda like that , its very of its timeLiberator is a great ship design , well i'd have one put it that wayThe stories aren't all that , but the beauty lies in the dialogue and relationships between the main characters and their unwillingness to do almost anything unless really pushedGreat show imo
