XoWizIama Excellent adaptation.
Keeley Coleman The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
Juana what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
gcd70 Picturesque Prince Edward Island is the setting for this marvellous mini series about a talkative and highly imaginative young orphan girl who is taken in by a brother and sister who were looking for a boy to help them tend their farm.Megan Follows is wonderful as the dreamy Anne (with an 'e') Shirley, whose fiery temper and "feather brain ways" land her in hot water constantly. She plays the little girl growing up and coming to terms with reality and the challenges of life with real meaning. In support of her is the charming Richard Farnsworth and an outstanding Colleen Dewhurst as Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. The entire cast are in fact a real pleasure.Adding to this delightful film of L. M. Montgomery's novel is Hagood Hardy's music and the spectacular cinematography from Rene Ohashi. Kevin Sullivan directs with absolute assuredness as he delivers an impeccably well balanced show full of touching drama and charming humour, whilst his costume and set designers recreate the late 19th century with unerring accuracy."Anne of Green Gables" will do more than make you smile, it will have you positively beaming. An absolute must for all the family, and anyone who wishes to have their senses and emotions filled to the brim. Entirely disarming!Sunday, July 3, 1994 - VideoLucy Maud Montgomery's "Anne of Green Gables" has been splendidly adapted to the small screen by director Kevin Sullivan in this Canadian television production, recapturing the style and mood of the book and transporting the audience to the early 20th century with ease.Totally charming in every way, this two part mini-series fills one's heart with emotion and one's eyes with tears. It is entertainment in the purest form. Colleen Dewhurst is an absolute must as the strict disciplinarian Marilla Cuthbert, a hard woman hiding a soft heart of pure gold, she is irresistible, as is the disarming "Anne with an 'e'", Megan Follows, the girl blessed with a wild imagination and a temper to match. Follows has absolutely no trouble endearing the audience to Montgomery's lovable "Anne of Green Gables", and the same can be said about the entire support cast, but especially Richard Farnsworth as Marilla's brother Matthew, the gentle, shy old man who falls for Anne's foolish, feather-brained ways.Complimenting all the outstanding acting is Hagood Hardy's majestic score, Rene O'Hashi's spectacular cinematography ( which breathes life into the picturesque Prince Edward Island) and the wonderfully authentic costumes and sets.Unfortunately the sequel, "Anne of Green Gables Part II", failed to live up to this picture's delightful splendour.Sunday, July 16, 1995 - Video
Rmaxthedog Well, I was 14 when I first saw Anne of Green Gables on the PBS channel for a pledge drive. I didn't read the books or anything. I asked my mom if she has seen it and she told me it was stupid and she didn't like it at all, but in spite of her dislike I watched it. It's a tale that just about every girl can relate to...trying to fit in, being competitive/defying everyone, having that one bestest best friend forever and girls that are most certainly not, new dresses, handsome school boys, or prospects of graduating and going off to college or work. This movie isn't for every one though...Anne can be a little too imaginative for some people (like my mom), but she can also be insightful and help young girls discover themselves as "kindred spirits."
anniehutch I just recently watched this movie again and all I have to say is this is an amazing movie. I remember watching it on TV when I was younger and I feel in love right then and there! Megan Follows is a very, very convincing Anne. Now when I read the books I picture her. I watch this movie at least once every three or four months just to be inspired. It's heart warming and a wonderful movie for children and adults alike. This movie makes you feel like you're there with her experiencing everything with her and growing up along side of her. The locations are breathtaking. The acting is wonderful. The theme is timeless. The movie all in all is fabulous. I never get tired of watching it.
giraf_21 Annne of Green Gables is the kind of movie that has everything, it makes you laugh, cry, etc... My favourite one is the first one when she goes to Avonlea for the first time. My favourite scenes are the ones with Anne and Matthew like the one where he gives her the dress with puff sleeves and the one when he goes to buy the dress, and he buys a whole bunch of other stuff trying to get the courage up to buy the dress. All the actors and actresses for the movie are perfect for there roles. The writing is brilliant and some of the scipts are really funny. The actress who does Rachel is perfect playing the town gossip. And the love story between Anne and Gilbert is very good and her friendship with Dianna is good too. I've watched this movie over and over again and it's the type of movie you can re-watch and enjoy it as much as if it was the first time your watching it you can't say that about too many movies. I'm from New Brunswick and my province is a neighbor to Prince Edward Island where the film was shot. It's nice to see the province in a movie and it's so beautiful there as you can see in the movie. The theme song is so nice too. Anyway this movie is up there in the top 5 movies i've seen.
