Intcatinfo A Masterpiece!
Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
Kaydan Christian A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Justin Novak So....I have this list of anime to watch. And last week I had decided to edit it and add any anime that seemed like I had been ignoring. The first one to come to mind was Angel Beats! and somehow someway it ended up at the top of my list within minutes. I don't know how but I'm REALLY glad it did. The first episode could have been a lot better, but from there on out it was simply amazing! Everything from the absolutely brilliant music to character development and anything else you could ask for from an anime. The storyline is very original and the characters are all unique and memorable in there own ways. Tachibana (Kanade/Angel....I just call her Tachibana) could quite possibly be my favorite anime character of all time. No joking, the way her character develops and the mystery remaining behind her as well as her somewhat unintentional and unexplainable charm will leave you breathless. Yuri, Iwasawa, Naoi and Yui's backgrounds and stories will leave you thinking, feeling, and pondering your life, in a good way of course. Otonashi as the main protagonist does a fantastic job of not hogging up the spotlight throughout the series yet does exceptionally well at maintaining a good guy status and being very likable. Lets get the elephant out of the room.....THE ENDING THOUGH. This definitely isn't the first time Angel Beats! will play with your emotions. Me personally, for awhile I had been wanting to see Tachibana and Otonashi embrace....not even necessarily kiss or confess there love. But just see Tachibana let her emotions out. And the ending made that happen in a bold, beautiful, sad, and bittersweet way. I truly, cry every time. Overall, this isn't my TOP show that I've seen. Its verdict on that part probably comes from its shorter length and occasional gaps in the plot. Personally I would have loved to have seen more of Tachibana coming out of her shell. The way she did in the last two episodes or so was remarkable and I wanted alittle more of that. Also, the show tried to hard for awhile to mix its serious themes with humor sometimes, which left me confused how to feel sometimes. Nevertheless, its positives far and beyond overpower any down points to the point where I would rate it a perfect 10. HIGHLY Recommended.P.S. Watch the SUB please :D
crazypenguinbob I'm going to be as honest but unbiased as I can here. After watching Clannad and Clannad Afterstory, I had become a huge fan of Key and their works, so I decided to pick up 'Angel Beats!'. Immediately I was captured by the music (which, by the way is so good I actually listened to the opening and ending every single episode)and the level of detail in animation (especially the guns!) although this is constant throughout Key's works. However, I feel that this anime was incredibly short, and suffered extremely because of it and I feel the writer (Jun Maeda) who also developed Clannad did not get what he expected. The plot is very confusing, and extra random information is thrown at you in every episode, and half the time you have to figure out 'what on earth is even going on' and 'how does this even make sense' instead of concentrating on the screen.A guy (Otanashi) wakes up in an afterlife, where teenagers who led unhappy lives and did not get to fulfil their dreams get a second chance in this world, which is like a high school with surrounding rivers and stuff. Once they become happy, fulfil their dreams or behave like a normal student they disappear from this world. Some of the students there are rebelling against God because of their unfair lives, and do not want to disappear. They do this by fighting against the student council president, Kanade (Angel) who is trying to make them behave. But the extra stuff they add in for no reason really over complicated things.I feel that although all the characters were unique, attractive and fun to watch, there was just not enough time to get attached to them before the end and it seems a lot of the emotion is forced on you, (here's a cute girl saying sad things to sad music, cry dammit!) when really, there is just no 'substance', if that makes sense whereas in Clannad/Clannad AS, the amount of thorough tear jerkers was just too much for me to handle (and I'm a guy!).The characters did not get enough time to develop, especially the main guy, who I thought was a bit bland. It ended up with major plot holes (What happened to all the other characters? What is HER backstory? What the hell just happened?!) that I felt left a gaping hole in what could have been an incredibly enjoyable anime.Enough of the criticism. The overall feel of the anime was really enjoyable, and makes you feel both happy and sad at parts. The music is a really big part of this. I liked the backstories of the characters they showed, especially Otonashi, whose backstory I thought was very interesting. The animation is slick and the characters are all likable with the voice-acting on point (none of the irritating over the top moe stuff)and I strongly recommend watching the English sub instead of dub. One reason is one of the characters only speaks English, spontaneously uttering random hilarious phrases, and also I felt the voices fit the characters and convey the emotions better, and the songs and names sound much better in Japanese (in fact Captain Levi plays the main character so what other reason would you not want to watch it?!) The battles are really awesome and get you fired up, but there isn't that much humour; when there is its pretty lame and repetitive. After all that, it may seem strange to say that I would strongly recommend this anime but it really is one you can't miss. The music, characters and final scene are ones you can't go without saying you've experienced. Though short, it does leave an impact on you for a while (what do you want to do in your life? do things now before its too late!). Considering the huge fanbase, I'd say it could become a classic, but decide for yourself. Perfect mix of action and quite a thriller that keeps you hooked. Watch it, its pretty damn good for a thirteen episode series. If you find yourself uninterested, just remember the half tragic/depressing and half happy ending is worth the wait. I just loved the whole atmosphere and fantasy of it.
trupti-gupta29 Honestly, I think this anime had a good concept. The story could have been much, much better. It was draggy and boring in some places, and too soppy in the others.I personally feel, a story should not force you to shed tears. A story should help you shed tears. I felt that the emotion in 'Angel Beats' was too imposed, like the makers wanted you to feel in a certain way. For me, it was just fake. It took away from the entire series, and i watched it only so I could finish it.As far as I can remember, I felt the character's sorrow/joy only in two episodes. Once when Yuki disappears and the other when Yuzuru dies. Otherwise the amine was pretty tasteless.Somehow, I did not/ could not connect. It was good in bits, but as a whole it did not quite make it.
Tweekums As this series opens Yuzuru Otonashi wakes to find himself at a school but with no memories; there is something unlike most schools about it though; a girl, armed with a rifle. She claims to be part of something called the 'Not Dead Yet Battlefront'. Everybody there is in fact dead and they can die again… it is just that when they do they get better. The girl is Yuri Nakamura, AKA Yurippe, and her group is at war with 'Angel' head of the student council. If anybody acts as though they fit in at the school or show signs of contentment they vanish; the groups constant fighting prevents that. Yuri believes that if they can destroy Angel's credibility she will be unable to make people vanish; it won't be easy though and if they do succeed there is no guarantee that things will really get better. This world is different from the world of the living in several ways; the group are given weapons by a Guild who can make any weapon from nothing and Angel can also conjure weapons from thin air. Over the course of the series there is a fair bit of action although it is played out in a light hearted way so it is funny even when people die… of course knowing they'll be back helps! To distract Angel the school band put on shows which is an excuse for regular musical interludes; at least in the early episodes; this is okay though as the tunes are fairly catchy. The character designs are fairly standard but they do look good and everything is well animated. The characters are likable and over the course of the series one comes to care about them; especially when we learn more about their past lives. The series contains thirteen regular episodes and one OVA episode; that is to be found after the last regular episode on the DVD but should be watched between episodes four and five. These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles although I watched part of an episode in English and the dub sounded fairly good.
