Alicia I love this movie so much
Kinley This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows

Billy Ollie Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
silver_randomocity Okay, I remember when this show first came out. I fan-adored it. I actually came to dislike Jake and Trixie for their stereotypes. My favorite characters were Spud (AWESOMENESS) and Rose. I loved most things in it however (as long as bad-rapper Trixie was absent) and loved the plot, Spud (*sigh*), and the theme song (A. J. Trauth rocked). Then Season 2 came out. A horrible artist for the theme song, crappy graphics, and TRIXIE. If you watch the show, watch Season 1, and don't even bother with Season 2. Other things that bothered me was one episode (Dragon's Summit) that seemed to infringe on a book I've read prior. The idea for the show was great, Spud, A.J. as the theme song singer, and Rose were great. Most of the plot, Jake, Trixie, Fuu-Dog (???) were not.
detectivelin Being of Asian-blood, it's hard to find Asian culture in the American states to stay true to source material that is not offending and degrading to us as a whole. However, American Dragon: Jake Long "takes the cake," so to speak, on so many levels of disgrace, that I believe not a single Asian is willing to say that it is a good cartoon at all. For starters, the title itself, "American Dragon," does not sound right from the get-go. The theme song is just as ridiculous as it sounds and it really magnifies the more primitive things to expect from this cartoon. The characters themselves present the overly-used concept of stereotyping Asians and the "black girl with attitude," and "white friend who is teetering on being of pure ignorance or dull." The real case here is the main character, Jake Long, who tries so hard to be "with the times" by talking "street" with the "yo yo yo" and other phrases that make one cringe on how stupid it sounds. Adding on to the insult is the fact that Jake Long pretty much is quite disrespectful to his grandfather in a way that shows his ignorance to listen to him until the end. By that time, he tries to make it look like he has learned a lesson, but in the next episodes, he is still the same kid as seen from the start. Are Asians in America THAT embarrassed with their own culture that they have to resort to trying to fit in with everyone else? I think not! If Jake spoke and carried himself in a normal voice, it would have been at least tolerable to watch. There are so many clichés to gather from watching just one episode that if you've seen one, you've seen them all and this story is very devoted to the whole "power bestowed on kid, enabling him or her to fight the forces of evil." Jake Long is pretty much a failure in most of his acts, being completely haughty and boastful. Yet, as we all see, he cannot even back up his statements because of his stupid mistakes that he happens to make due to his overconfident personality. His inability to tell that the one girl he likes in school is the very enemy he faces also shows that he is not too bright at all. If I were placed in his situation, it would have been too obvious just by looking. American Dragon: Jake Long is a cartoon that can only be entertaining to younger children who are interested in just watching something. If you really wish to appreciate anything-Asian, you're better off watching anime. At least in anime, things are more well-thought out and there are more genres that work for everyone.
shojo_sanzo This is by far the best show on Disney Channel. It has a good mix of fantasy, romance and action. It's great if you're into dragons. T The story is about a kid,at the age of 13,named Jake Long. He's about your average New York kid, loves to skateboard, play games, and has two friends named Trixie and Spud. He has one secret however... He's the American Dragon. He is the first recorded dragon ever born in America. That's why they call him the American Dragon. His grandfather,Lao Shi,is also his teacher. He teaches Jake all the basics of becoming a dragon.Lao Shi is also known as Grampa,he's the Chinese Dragon. Or that's what they call him. Anyway, the show is overall good,it has some stuff that is similar to another animation called Danny Phantom, but that doesn't mean it's bad. It's a very good and interesting show. I rate it a 9/10. It's not Anime. SO many of you that think it's anime,it isn't.
Jo I'm in love with anime and am semi-versed in Asian culture. This show...is...a disgrace. The writers for this series rely far too much on making Jake a good Asian-American boy, as a result, they make him talk slang so he doesn't come off as fobbish, which would not be nearly as insulting.Being based completely on stereotypes, the black girl is just that: black. The white boy is a stoned ditz. The Chinese grandfather sports his garbs all around New York and NO ONE finds that in the least odd? Now seriously, the theme is (if not plagiarized) a good theme. A boy living a double life trying to defend the magical world (because Juniper Lee, Danny Phantom, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Inuyasha are NOTHING like that) but still, my point remains that it does have potential if it weren't so kid-friendly.Probably the worst part is that Jake has no respect for his grandfather. If they wanted to stick to stereo types, they would have Jake be more obedient to his teacher rather than constantly goofing off like an immoral idiot. On one last note, Disney must just...stop. This is just humiliating, I mean, just listen to that theme song!
