Nayan Gough A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
Zlatica One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
Python Hyena Waydowntown (2000): Dir: Gary Burns / Cast: Don McKellar, Gordon Currie, Fabrizio Filippo, Marya Delver, Jennifer Clement: Why the title is all one word isn't clear but it may be a reference to the claustrophobic events happening within the story. It is set within the compounds of a building with office workers feeling trapped. Central plot regards a bet to see who can stay in the building the longest. They work for a boss who is a kleptomaniac and there is orders to buy him a retirement gift, but watching him is an even bigger challenge. Another crises involves an unsuccessful suicide after one of the office workers is caught talking to a woman. There is an affair taking place in the washroom. A woman in on the bet smells everything she touches because she is paranoid of pollution. Interesting concept sighting work as a jail sentence as these characters feel trapped within their cubicles. Director Gary Burns allows viewers to feel the claustrophobic emotions of the characters who are involved in bizarre encounters. Interesting performances by an ensemble cast including Don McKellar, Gordon Currie, Marya Delver, and Fabrizio Filippo. They are all interesting in terms of how they go about dealing with this task at hand. We do not care who wins this bet. It is observing their suffering that hints great comic opportunity. Excellent film about job stress and sanity. Score: 10 / 10
connermcnicholas I liked this movie a lot. I mean, we all know it's not incredible. But it is quite entertaining and witty. It's one of those movies I like to fall asleep to every night. Also, I'm not sure if anybody else realized this goof, but in the elevator at the beginning, Tom asks Randy for some of his bagel. In the following scenes, they switch positions. It's possible this was intentional because of some mirror in the elevator, but I don't think so. To add to this, lots of characters have extremely purple lipstick on, especially the men.I'd enjoy making sweet, sweet love to Sandra, by the way. I'm not gay or anything but Tom is really hot for a guy. I wish I looked like him.E-mail me if you'd like to discuss this movie or others like it at connermcnicholas@hotmail.com
Chimale1025 This is one of those film school reject affectations by a director who should know better. Blurry insipid images show a world that really isn't that interesting about people that really don't matter. A real time waster. I wouldn't be reviewing it if so IFC and Sundance weren't hyping it so much.
javanee I bought this movie for $ 0.99 in the bargain bin at Blockbuster. (At that price, the only thing a guy can waste on a movie such as this is the time it takes to watch it.) It was not a waste of time. It is kind of an odd movie. It seems to be struggling to be some kind of "arty" film, but doesn't really succeed that well. It is kind of rough around the edges, but I like seeing unfamiliar actors do their thing. Some pretty funny parts in amongst the wierdness. I do not regret buying this movie for a dollar and will probably watch it at least one more time.
