Evengyny Thanks for the memories!
JinRoz For all the hype it got I was expecting a lot more!
Odelecol Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
George Taylor This movie about an attempt on the President, asks the audience to suspend just too much disbelief in telling it's story. Plus it's clunky and has plot holes large enough to drive a truck through.
zkonedog The "hook" of Vantage Point is that when the President of the United States is shot in a crowded town square, many people witness the event. This film explores those multiple "vantage points", adding a new layer to the plot with each story. The film really works on two different levels:First, it contains enough twists and turns to really engage the mind into generating theories as to what is actually happening. Seemingly with every vantage point seen, the one before it is called into question. Thus, this leads to many "whoa" moments.Second, the acting is terrific. Matthew Fox, Dennis Quaid, William Hurt, and Forrest Whitaker (among others) all fit into their roles with ease, and each story is compelling enough to make you actually care about what will happen to each person. Plus, without trying to give too much away, the film also messes with audience's perceptions of actors from previous roles (cryptic, yes, but you'll get it once you watch). The only reason I do not give this film 5 stars is that the ending degenerates into nothing more than a Jason Bourne-style car chase scene, nothing like the provocative storytelling mode throughout most of the film.Overall, this is a great concept-film that showcases an entirely new type of storytelling. If you are a fan of action movies and love your "no way!" moments, you will enjoy this film immensely.
bart-130-152768 What a waste of great acting talent. I just watched it on TV and how glad I am I watched it on cable and didn't have to pay to see this movie. So what do you get? Action? Yes. Car chases: definitely. Original filming: I can appreciate the attempt. Good acting: Always Love Forest Whitaker. 4 points. What was missing? Credibility: 2 bombs passing security, cars hitting walls without airbags opening up, infiltration, people dying on one bullet while other ones keep going and a President that is kidnapped and not assassinated for whatever reason. President is saved, everybody happy. If you have seen Man on Fire then you know why this is such a bad movie. There have been films review-slaughtered who where much and much better then this one. So if you want a brainless action movie, go ahead - but there are much better movies in this category. If you want nothing but pure car chases: go rent the Fast and the Furious. Nice try. No Cigar.
bowmanblue 'Vantage Point' is basically a thriller about a terrorist bombing/plot to kill the President of America while he's on an overseas trip. And, as you may probably be thinking, there's not much original about that plot. However, the film's major 'selling point' is that the story is told several times, through the use of different spectators/participants' perspectives (in fact 'Perspective' might have been a more appropriate title!).Therefore, the film-makers can claim it's an original concept applied to a not particularly original idea. And it works... just. For a thriller it ticks all the boxes you want. It has stars (many in fact) who all turn in an acceptable performance (and give them extra credit when none of them are in it ALL the way through, therefore hardly giving them a chance to 'flesh out' their character). It's not that long and there are a good few shoot-outs/explosions/car chases. And that's it really. It could be described as 'run of the mill' if it wasn't for it's different approach to the norm, plus it has just about enough A-list stars in it to raise it above a B-movie. But, at the end of the day, that's basically what it is – a glorified B-movie. But that's no bad thing, as it's highly watchable and should keep you entertained if you like thrillers for just under an hour and a half.http://thewrongtreemoviereviews.blogspot.co.uk/
