Evengyny Thanks for the memories!
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Abbigail Bush what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Cinefill1 Vertigo 2005: Live from Chicago (sometimes titled Vertigo '05: Live from Chicago) is a concert film by Irish rock band U2, showcasing two concerts recorded in Chicago, Illinois during band's 2005 Vertigo Tour. The film was released as a DVD later in the year (see 2005 in music) on 14 November by Island Records in most parts of the world and was released in the United States a day later by Interscope Records. The DVD was released as a one-disc standard edition and a deluxe edition with a second disc featuring bonus material and a documentary. It was the first of three concert films from the tour. The DVD was a worldwide success, topping the Music DVD charts in eleven regions and has received certifications in over seven areas. As of January 2007, it has been the band's best-selling DVD, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and has sold over a quarter of a million copies in the United States. The two concerts featured on Vertigo 2005: Live from Chicago were recorded and performed at the United Center in Chicago on 9–10 May 2005. The footage used in the DVD was shot live from two nights of the band's four concert stop in Chicago. The concert on May 10 was Bono's birthday, providing a ceremonious backdrop to the concert. Critical reception: -Vertigo 2005 received generally favourable reviews. Cammila Albertson of Allmusic felt that the concert DVD accomplished its purpose, but that the lighting or camera movements in some scenes did not capture the moments as well as they should have. Despite an overall positive review, John Murphy of MusicOMH felt that most fans do not need to purchase the DVD if they have Elevation 2001: Live from Boston or U2 Go Home: Live from Slane Castle, Ireland. Mike Shiller of PopMatters felt that the concerts were well-filmed but that the DVD was typical. John Cruz of Sputnikmusic felt that the band is one of the best live rock acts, but that too many songs from Achtung Baby were used and it was not a great concert.
g_bernard Another flawless show -- even the temporary frog in Bono's throat was done in a professional manner. The Edge's guitar does the job it takes two or guitarists in other bands. They must have spent a small fortune on stage and Arena lighting. They could have easily gotten away with spending a tenth -- but they went all out for their fans.To the comment about Bono's glasses. Bono has a severe eye condition that leads to extreme sensitivity to light. Spotlights especially, are very painful. He did however take his glasses off for one song, the dedication to his Dad. Knowing his condition, I found this very heart-warming: His respect and love for his Dad.I understand your feelings, and most times I feel the same way, but in this case, unfortunately, there is a good reason.Let us all join together and help his dreams come true. I like his summary, "Let's put man back on Earth".Charlie
Lasse Elgaard It is impressing how a band this old can still produce a concert like this! They have the same energy as for 25 years ago! Unfortunately I didn't see U2 when they came to Denmark, and I am still sad about it!! Could have been a experience of my lifetime - if it was just half as good as the show in Chicago. The best thing about this concert, is that they play a track from almost every album they have produced! Noy only the hitlist-wonders like Vertigo and Sunday Bloody Sunday. They play less known numbers like "40" and "Cry/Electric Co." I must admit that I wasn't the biggest U2 fan, so I didn't know these tracks. But they are almost as good as the biggest of all: "Elevation" and "Sunday Bloody Sunday"!Elevation is bye the way, the best track on the DVD. The way the entire Crowd shouts "ELEVATION" is extraordinary! The only thing I can compare it with, is "We Will Rock You" from the Live Aid concert from 1985. 100.000 people or more shouts "WE WILL, WE WILL ROCK YOU" along Freddie Mercury!A truly amazing music-DVD!!
eamlen This is a must see for any music fan. It features a band at the peak of their powers and is a very strong performance from the 4 lads from Dublin. I was lucky enough to attend 3 Vertigo Tour shows and the Chicago DVD brings back all those feelings you get when you see U2 live. From the last PA song before the concert begins (a song called wake up by arcade fire) to the end it's arena rock at it's very best. There is a great mix of new and old spanning their full 25 years in the business. The new album, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb is obviously featured heavily and doesn't look out of place among such classics as Where the Streets Have No Name and Sunday Bloody Sunday. The show ends with a fantastic closing song (40) which involves the audience singing the band off the stage. Very powerful stuff 9/10
