Reviews

Wordiezett So much average
WasAnnon Slow pace in the most part of the movie.
Console best movie i've ever seen.
Ginger Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Scott LeBrun Clint Eastwood is in very fine form here, not having to stretch himself but displaying that cool screen presence that always served him well. He plays Hogan, a loner travelling through Mexico who saves a woman, Sara (Shirley MacLaine) from being ravaged by American lowlifes. Then he finds out that she's a nun...well, supposedly a nun. Certain signals have him wondering about her. Although they are both on their own missions, they ultimately unite to assist the Mexican revolutionaries from the country's aggressive occupation by French forces. This is a somewhat unusual Western, and a typically solid collaboration between Clint and his frequent director, Don Siegel. It mostly centres around the evolving relationship between our two heroes. The cranky Hogan sometimes has to prod her into doing what he needs her to do, but they do take turns helping each other out, such as the extended sequence where she must help remove an arrow that's been shot into him by a Yaqui Indian. Hogan is not particularly religious, and does tend to get annoyed at some of her habits. He's also one of those in-it-for-the-money types, but it's not surprising that he does get his consciousness raised. Meanwhile, Sara can be feisty, but MacLaine never makes her abrasive in any way and creates a very appealing character.Filmed entirely on location in Mexico, this features mostly unfamiliar supporting actors, save for guys like Manolo Fabregas as the passionate Colonel Beltran, Alberto Morin as the hearty French general LeClaire, and Armando Sylvestre as one of the American creeps at the outset. The film is extremely well shot in widescreen, and is a great looking picture, brought further to colourful life by a wonderful Ennio Morricone score that this viewer can still hear in his head as he types this.Overall, this is great fun, with endearing give-and-take between the unlikely star duo, and a fairly straightforward script (written by Albert Maltz, based on a story by filmmaker Budd Boetticher) that leads to a very rousing action climax that features the occasional burst of surprising gore. The eventual twist regarding MacLaine is no great shock given that the whole tale is clearly leading up to this sort of revelation. Still, this is highly worth watching for fans of the stars.Eight out of 10.
dworldeater Two Mules For Sister Sara is a very sharp looking, tightly directed and quick paced action packed western. This is pretty lighthearted in tone and a entertaining film. While, Two Mules For Sister Sara is not one of Clint's absolute best westerns, it is a solid film in its own right and has a lot of the same look and feel that resembles his Italian westerns. Ennio Morricone's score is excellent and provides great aural enhancement to supplement the story. Don Siegel is regarded as one of the finest directors working and this was very well put together. Shirley MacLaine is equally funny and oozing of sex appeal, looking very foxy in her nun uniform. She had pretty good chemistry with Clint and Two Mules For Sister Sara is a solid and entertaining western.
alexanderdavies-99382 Don Siegel and Clint Eastwood made a very good first film together in the form of "Coogan's Bluff." I naturally expected their next collaboration to be just as memorable. Sadly, this is not the case with "Two Mules for Sister Sara." I was quite irritated by this film. First of all, I am not a fan of Shirley Maclaine as her kind of acting tends to leave a horrible taste! I could never warm to her and she's no different here. Secondly, the plot is woeful and totally unbelievable. How is Clint Eastwood that dumb that he falls for all of the deception that comes his way from his leading lady? One expects a lot from the audience to digest glaring narrative errors which tend to bite pretty hard! Some things in a story you can't just take at face value. The lack of action is notable throughout and boredom soon sets in. The photography is ok in itself but that can't save "Two Mules for Sister Sara." There is absolutely no one in the supporting cast to recognise or to remember for that matter. Surely a couple of familiar American character actors like John Vernon would have helped? The acting honours go to the snakes and the horses. Don Siegel is a highly talented artist but I really can't understand why he had to direct this mess. Clint Eastwood does his usual and no doubt thought his paycheck the only worthy thing from this film.
farcryfolk This movie was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting perhaps a spaghetti western comedy, but what I got was an exciting plot that moved right along, with good performances from the two leads, some nice scenery, good dialogue and a great buildup to a nice climax. Shirley Mcclaine was perfectly cast, and boy did she look absolutely splendid. The scene where Clint questions her morals as a nun who shuns the physical feelings is deft and wonderfully written and acted, it was my favorite scene. The action goes from entertaining to more entertaining. Clint is simply wonderful, this was one of his best movies I thought. The chemistry between them is great. I like how the romance develops replete with some twists that you may or may not see coming. Don Siegel is such a talented director, he always seems to make movies that not only movie right along but manages to get good performances from everyone involved. We need more directors like Siegel in this day and age. The music was trademark Ennio Morricone cowboy music, he is always spot on. This is the kind of movie that they just don't make anymore, perfect entertainment for a weekend on the couch. Catch it if you can.
