CommentsXp Best movie ever!
Gurlyndrobb While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Lachlan Coulson This is a gorgeous movie made by a gorgeous spirit.
Saarah N A film attempting to mock all romantic comedies, ever made!.Was it good at meeting this aim? I'd say so, it mocked multiple clichés from the clumsy damsel in distress, to the 'afraid of commitment' male lead....For me, the film was quite off putting, hence the three stars, I felt that because it had to include all the stupid clichés-in order to mock them- the film was too predictable. This film was like a bad Shakespeare play- just like him, this film mocked love at first sight, 'the rivalry to love' story, how everything always worked itself out. The unhappy ending surprise, near the end, was a welcome one. A break from all the predictability. As a piece of satire, the film wasn't bad. But because I adore so many romantic comedies, this film was like a slap in the face. A piece which serves to ridicule, and reveal the irony and stupidity behind rom-coms. Everything presented was a sort of reminder that you've seen it all before. Even if the characters were charming. Though, as much as I disliked certain aspects, I do think this was clever- and entertaining, the dialogue was brilliant. Particularly when Joel receives a promotion for the most ridiculous, least inspiring, speech of all time. And he says something along the lines of 'I wasn't expecting that at all'. When, it was more than clear that he would receive it, a play on the idea of everything always working out. While I wouldn't recommend this film to committed rom-com fans, I will recommend to those who call themselves 'anti-romantics'. Though, I'm sure anyone will appreciate most of the humour, but I can't promise you'll laugh all the way through.
Canberk Emri The movie is making fun of every cliché that happens in a romantic comedy in a brilliant way. It is not a lousy weird parody that doesn't have its own storyline cause it does, it actually has a storyline about wisely created two characters that are probably made of every single character in boring, same old romantic comedy movies. There are not any specific jokes that turns the movie into any kind of movie that you can watch anytime you go to a theater but it is witty in a subtle way. There are times that it makes you laugh out loud but it is usually hilarious in a way that is not clearly obvious. Amy Poehler is clearly adorable and makes you smile and feel weirdly warm overtime she says something about being a ordinary romantic comedy "I am going to a break up but I will meet the man of my life in a few months" single woman. Paul Rudd is also hilarious because he has the perfect material for a classic romantic comedy that is made fun of in the movie but he is not going for it. He is actually going for the hilarious character that has every weird characteristic from romantic comedy men. It is a fun movie you can watch with people and have great time.
Argemaluco They Came Together has all the ingredients of a trite romantic comedy... but in this occasion, the clichés are intentional, because this is a satire whose objective is laughing at the genre, exploiting its well-known formulas and stereotypes in order to denounce its routines. Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler bring perfect performances in their roles; they were able to adopt the exact tone of seriousness and sarcasm. Besides, we have a long parade of solid comedians (Bill Hader, Ed Helms, Michael Ian Black, Kenan Thompson, Jack McBryer, Ken Marino and the great Ellie Kemper) bringing "spark" to the supporting roles (but, how the hell wasn't Judy Greer, the eternal "best friend", invited?). On the negative side, I didn't like the screenplay from They Came Together at all. A big majority of the jokes fail because they are insipid and predictable, while the fleeting slightly funny moments are alien to the main plot (and they are only due to the talent of the actors). The result is that They Came Together ends up being a bad romantic comedy, and the fact that its mediocrity is intentional doesn't lighten the boredom it generates. In conclusion, the whole cast from They Came Together made a good work, but unfortunately, their performances caught in a tedious and mostly unfunny film. We all know that most of the romantic comedies are absurd, repetitive and unreal; but it's not enough with pointing that out in order to make us laugh.
webbsk For a movie that has a ton of very funny people, this is not a very funny film. The filmmaker seems to think repeating the clichés of a RomCom and winking sidelong at the audience makes the old clichés funny but really it doesn't. They're still tired and worn out clichés that make this difficult to sit through without getting bored. That is not good satire! I agree, it's difficult to send up a genre: Airplane and Galaxy Quest can't be made everyday. But I feel like this film is more in the same vein as the nth Scary Movie or Not Another Teen Movie: not worth the time to watch them. It's too bad because a lot of good talent goes to waste here.
