Solemplex To me, this movie is perfection.
ScoobyMint Disappointment for a huge fan!
ActuallyGlimmer The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
Sameer Callahan It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
jmksi00 The show is not even watchable! A Few minutes in I scratched my head and wondered why so many talented actors and actresses were willing to put their name to such a God Awful Show! It misses the point about being a campy show about Camp! The one liners and character portrayals by the cast are insulting, not just the viewer but to all living beings. Such a shame I really wanted to like this but after 20 minutes of the first episode I couldn't take anymore. The acting and dialogue are childish and are not even funny. There is no redeeming qualities of this show. Save yourself and your brain cells from spending anytime watching this show.
FilmBuff1994 Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp is a terrific comedy series with well written episodes and a star studded comedic cast. It's a very fun show that will surely please any die hard fans of the original 2001 movie, it has all the same goofy, slapstick and straight up ridiculous humour that people have come to expect from Showalter and Wain. It definitely had many noticeably flaws that bothered me, although they may not have been of huge concern to many others, first off I wasn't very found of all eight episodes taking place in one day, it's fine for a movie, but not for eight episodes that are all thirty minutes each, I think it would have given the writers more creative freedom to have each one take place in a different day instead, revolving on their first week of camp. Also, the jokes about the age gaps of the actors and their characters was overused, it was already stated with their clothing and personalities, it didn't need to be stated so often, with characters mentioning they were "too young to drink alcohol" or a girl mentioning she just started her period, I think if they do have another reunion it would be better for it to be set years after the events of the first movie, possibly with the cast taking control of Camp Firewood. The cast is definitely a delight, there isn't a single member from the movie who dosen't return, Paul Rudd, Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Marguerite Moreau, Michael Ian Black, Elizabeth Banks and Janeane Garofalo, just to name a few, are all back in action, and some great new characters, played by the likes of Jason Schwartzman, John Slattery, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig and Jon Hamm, among many others, and somehow none of them end up feeling underused. However, my favourite part of the whole series had to be Christopher Meloni, who actually wasn't my favourite character in the first movie (that being David Hyde Pierce, who sadly only features in two episodes, both times very briefly), but he steals every scene he is in this time around, and Gene is as cool as he's ever been. It definitely had many imperfections, but Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp is still a great laugh that gets better for each episode, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good comedy series. During the summer of 1981, we follow the campers of Camp Firewood on their insane first day. Best Performance: Christopher Meloni Worst Performance: Michael Showalter (as President Reagan) Best Episode: Day is Done Worst Episode: Campers Arrive
C Jones Ah, to be like my YMCA camp counselors in the early 80s. There I was sucking e-number popsicles and wondering what the lyrics to "Like a Virgin" meant in my favorite care bear tee, dreaming that some day I'd be as cool as Sherry: the long-legged, winged-haired teenager in terry cloth shorts and tube socks who was making a few bucks a day to usher little kids through various activities of no educational value. She like totally had a walkman by the way.If you were born in the USA in the late 60's or 70s and liked the Airplane movies, you'll 'get' this show. It takes 80s drama, 80s comedy and various other genres, it puts them in a Ronco infomercial blender and it makes you eat it. It tastes good and fresh and weird. It mocks, references, revels in, clubs on the head, drags by Farrah Fawcett hair, prods, abandons and revisits. It's pure period pranksterism, where they make fun of pretty much everything, including you.The plot is hilariously grandiose, framing the Zucker Brothers-style humor perfectly. The all-star cast is wonderful, their willingness to make arses of themselves marvelous, the device of casting adults over 30 to play 16 year olds pure genius. Plus it will take you right back to camp in the 80s, complete with grown men in tiny shorts.I withhold a star only because some of the jokes are too puerile for me (it's a current trend I know, but it's not clever).
aristotle61 I have never seen anything like this before in my life. There aren't words bad enough to describe it. It's hard to have too much respect for the long list of talented actors in this..... whatever it is, after watching them in this.Apparently Netflix has decided that there really isn't any need to try and make a television series that's good when you can just make garbage and pay a lot of money to big name actors to be in it. With this cast how bad could it be, right? These actors must like money so much that they will do just about anything if you pay them enough.I wouldn't think this "series" was good if it was a first effort at film making by a student in high school. I can honestly say I will never watch a Netflix production again. They actually make the networks look like talented geniuses.
