TrueJoshNight Truly Dreadful Film
Crwthod A lot more amusing than I thought it would be.
AnhartLinkin This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
Anoushka Slater While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
evanhilemanflashguy This movie is SO bad, that I find the original movie less good after watching it. Let me tell you about it. The original "Secret of NIMH" is… well, you know what. But this direct-to-video monstrosity is the total opposite. Thank heavens Don Bluth have nothing to do with it. "The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue" is one of the worst, if not THE worst animated sequel of all time. It's worse than "A Troll in Central Park", "The Wisdom of Friends", and "Titanic: The Legend Goes On"! But it's not as bad as "FoodFight!" The reason is because it has some redeeming factors. The animation is not quite as good as the original, but it is okay. The voice actor for the Evil Martin is good. I'll let you know later. I'll tell you the plot. The film begins with a prophecy telling how one of Jonathan and Mrs. Brisby's sons would save Thorn Valley from NIMH. (It's all a lie) Timmy (Andrew Ducote) is chosen to go but his older brother Martin (Phillip Van Dyke) believes he should have been the one chosen. Martin decides to prove his quality, and goes off to find his adventure. One day Timmy (now voiced by Ralph Macchio) comes across a field mouse named Jenny McBribe (Hynden Walch), whose parents were two of the lost 8 mice who try to escape NIMH but were thought to have died. The Thorn Valley council decides it would be too dangerous to save the 8 mice, so Timmy and Jenny go alone. They take a hot air balloon, but is attacked by a hawk and crashes in the forest. Seeking help, they visit the Great Owl, which as it turns out is not the Great Owl, but actually Jeremy (Dom DeLuise) posing as the Great Owl. There they learn that a caterpillar named Cecil (Meshach Taylor) has teamed up with Jeremy to trick the forest animals into paying them money. Jeremy and Cecil take the two mice to NIMH where they find two of the rats from Thorn Valley, Justin (now voiced by William H. Macy and I don't know why) and Brutus (Kevin Michael Richardson). They also learn that Dr. Joseph Valentine (Steve Mackall), the head scientist, has made Martin insane. After being made insane, Martin (now voiced by Eric Idle) took over the lab and brainwashed Dr. Valentine with a device similar to the one Valentine used on him and made him think he was a dog. Martin plans to use an army of lab rats riding a flock of ravens to take over Thorn Valley. He even turns two cats, Muriel (Andrea Martin) and Floyd, (Harvey Korman) crazy, who then proceed to catch the others. He asks Timmy to join him, but he refuses and is locked in a cage as Martin drags Jenny away to make her his queen. Timmy escapes with the help of Cecil and they go to free Jenny. Together, they knock out Martin, and Timmy tricks Martin's army of ravens and rats to fly in the wrong direction. Timmy and Jenny then leave to find the others, only to find once everyone is free that NIMH is on fire. The survivors flee. Timmy goes back to save Martin. Before he leaves, Jenny tells him she loves him and he tells her the same. After being attacked by the crazy Muriel and Floyd once again, Timmy sends them down an elevator shaft and finally finds Martin. Timmy and Martin are able to escape through the lab's skylight, with some help from Jeremy. Jeremy takes the survivors to safety. The mice return to Thorn Valley, Martin (now voiced by Phillip Glasser) returns to normal and Timmy arrives to a hero's welcome by the citizens of Thorn Valley, including Justin, Brutus, Mr. Ages, (still voiced by Arthur Malet) and Auntie Shrew, (now voiced by Doris Roberts) along with Mrs. Brisby (Debi Mae West) and Martin's and Timmy's sisters, Teresa (Jamie Cronin) and Cynthia (Whitney Claire Kaufman). Here is what I say about it. It is bad. The Land Before Time sequels are truly more entertaining than this, even though some people hated them as well, they are nothing and I mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING compared to "Timmy to the Rescue". Timmy could beat them at his worst in his sleep. Even "The Land Before Time XIII: The Wisdom of Friends" can't get worse than this. It would be knocked out of the ring by only a single touch. It is also one of the worst cartoons I have ever seen in my entire life. It has an awful plot, and annoying songs. It was released in December 22nd 1998. I wish it was supposed to come out in that day for a direct-to-video release, but due to production difficulties and somebody plundering the footage, it would come out in March 30th 2008 in theaters. It would cost $60,000,000 to make, but grossed to $1,708, making it the lowest-grossing animated film OF ALL TIME! It would also make it the WORST ANIMATED FILM OF ALL TIME! That would ruin the company. There, that's all I'm going to say about this one. I hope it rots in ****!
kelby393 A sequel is supposed to CONTINUE the story, you idiots!!!NOT pull a false prophecy out of its arse (saying one of Johnathan Brisby's sons would someday save everyone from NIMH again when Nicodemus NEVER made such a prediction!)NOT toss the original hero aside like trash - Mrs. Brisby is BARELY in this movie, and she's not even on the front cover, instead it's all about her little son Timmy that had only one line in the original movie.NOT turn away from the style of the original - the original was dark and riveting, with an inexplicable charm (especially with the characters) that drew you into the story. In this sequel, everything is too bright and cutesy, and there are actually MUSICAL NUMBERS - YES, MGM was trying to copy Disney's tired out style. You know what, IT'S GETTING OLD!Last but not least, a sequel should NOT make the main characters and settings look like crap - the original was dark and very detailed in its backgrounds, and so were the characters. In this piece of lard the colors are so bright and cheesy, and the characters are empty. AND I CANT BELIEVE THEY MADE MARTIN THE VILLAIN!!! DUMBEST TWIST EVER!!!!Also, the voice acting isn't great - Dom DeLuise and Eric Idol are the only good things, but it's STILL NOT ENOUGH! By the way, I watched this long ago as a kid and so i never noticed the flaws, and I remembered this again because I watched the Nostalgia Critic review of it. So while I go try to forget about this abomination again, why don't you look up that Nostalgia Critic video on YouTube and watch that instead of this so called sequel - at least it's HILARIOUS and doesn't insult your intelligence like this piece of lard will!!!
Gavin Cresswell (gavin-thelordofthefu-48-460297) I should have read the warning signs. Upon seeing that my parents spent money on buying a direct-to-video sequel to one of the greatest movies ever made five years ago, I should have just ignored it. Instead, I had to watch this whole thing through. Why? Because I'm stupid and I'll watch anything that is either good or bad. The reason why I'm never watching this sequel again is because how extremely bad it is.It has spoilers. Be very afraid. The story is just simple. It tells the story about Timmy, Mrs. Brisby's son (who had just said one line at the end of the original film) who is sent to Thorn Valley to work with Justin and Mr. Ages. After finding a female mouse named Jenny, who's parents are kidnapped by NIMH, they set off to find the Great Owl. As they avoid very dangerous obstacles along the way, little do they know that they have bumped into someone from the past. The Land Before Time sequels are more entertaining than this even though some people hated them as well, but I would recommend that you should avoid this at all costs. It's still crap. The animation is lazy. For example, there's this one scene near the end of the film where Timmy tries to save Jenny from the evil Dr. Martin, Timmy's brother (who complained about not being able to go to Thorn Valley in the beginning of the film) who has strapped her in a chair (For some reason, she's not strapped until she later, it shows) and where Timmy throws the key to Jenny, but for some reason, Timmy uses the key with his sling gun to hit the switch to release her while hitting Martin as well. Think that this type of laziness is bad? It's worse. The story had no connection to the book sequel to Mrs. Frisby And The Rats Of NIMH in which the original film was based on since it suffered from too many plot holes. There's a fact that Timmy hasn't done anything since he became a hero, the fact that there's a self-fulfilling prophecy, and the fact that the rats never left Thorn Valley. Plus, they had the balls to make it a musical with annoying songs while the first two songs from the original were good. (The pop song in the ending credits was also good. Gotta give this movie some credit for that). The voice acting is just horrendous with one exception. Eric Idles' Over-The-Top performance as the evil Martin is the only saving grace near the end of this horrible sequel. I know that's not saying much, but at least he's entertaining than the rest of the forgettable characters including Timmy and Jenny. The Secret of NIMH 2, Timmy to the Rescue is one of the worst sequels I have ever seen, if not one of the "WORST" movies I have ever seen. It's even more bad than "The Magic Voyage". I hope it rots in ****.There. That's all I have to say about this... horrible film.Rating: 1.5/10
Ben Kennedy I liked the original NIMH film, I did. Dark and somber. I'd say it's Don Bluth's best film. The sad thing, sequels to Bluth films tend to be better than the original film (An American Tail, All Dogs Go to Heaven) but I betcha he's happy for once that did not happen. Not with NIMH 2.We start off with a recap of what happened in NIMH 1. Seeing that they re-used the old footage instead of re-animating them I was hoping to see the same sort of dark visual style. I was wrong. NIMH 2 looks like an episode of the Smurfs without the Smurfs on crack. It's the antithesis of the previous film. Bright, cheery, uninspired backgrounds and basic character design devoid of any detail. Yeah, good stuff.Either way, without going into too much detail, after seeing your favorite characters from the original film make horrid re-appearances the protagonist Timmy and his stacked girlfriend along with yourself are thrust into a land where the headquarters of NIMH is Castle Frankenstein and Timmy's brother becomes a British insane genius voiced by Eric Idle possibly singing the most cheery "I'm gonna take over the world" song ever. You know, I seriously think the original VHS tapes came with complimentary marijuana to enhance the viewing pleasure and ease the pain. That's what sucks about DVDs, you don't get stuff like that no more.I was laughing my ass off for the entirety of the film because nothing made sense. Suspension of disbelief is all well and good, but mine won't stretch this far. Watch it back-to-back with the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour and your drug addiction will have been cured. I feel pretty sure that you will not think this film is a complete waste of time if you see it after not having slept for 72 hours, like me. It's not that bad of a film really.
