Voxitype Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
Janae Milner Easily the biggest piece of Right wing non sense propaganda I ever saw.
851222 Greetings from Lithuania. So after seeing "The Score" (2001) which includes no less then actors who portrayed and won Oscars for portraying "Don Vito Corleone" himself and two more Oscar nominees, i can say that i was entertained for the whole 1 h 55 min. The heist itself is good, nothing super original but as a movie plot devise it worked. The most unfortunate thing for me was that this movie kinda lacked any third act, because when the score finally ends and some double crossing do come up, it kinda ends there on the most predictable note. That said i do recommend to seeing this movie once on a boring evening - it does its job. But if you consider the fact that 3 "household" names that appears in leading roles and one very strong female, it is a bit disappointing as it does not deliver anything fresh or highly great.Overall, "The Score" is a well made and superbly paced heist thriller which doesn't bring anything new to the table, but it is worth seeing it once. Pretty good story well made.
jcallows The Score is a surprisingly good film that will remind you of many other films, not just heist films. Two that come to mind are Midnight Run and Heat. The strength of this film is its realistic portrayal of a heist where things don't go smoothly and according to plan, just like in real life. This is what creates the bulk of the suspense and keeps you engaged through most of the film. The technical aspects of breaking into a safe, re-wiring security systems and hacking into computers appear very realistic as well. The main weakness of this movie is a problem it shares with Heat. Heat dragged in scenes between the stars and their significant others for no good reason. Like in Heat, The Score drags, especially early on, when it spends time on De Niro's relationship with his girlfriend. Those scenes don't add much to De Niro's character and could be condensed. Because of this detour, the film doesn't get to the good stuff— the heist— until almost 30 minutes later. But once it gets there, it does a good job keeping you engaged until the end. Other films you'll be reminded of are The Usual Suspects, Primal Fear and The Italian Job. One other weakness, and this is minor, is the soundtrack. The should get rid of the 80s sounding soundtrack and use a more contemporary one instead.
LeonLouisRicci If You Flinch when You Hear a Movie is a Slow-Burn, well, this is one that could be Definitive. Immersed in an Immense Minutia of Tradecraft connected with High-End Jewel Thieves, the Film Unfolds at a "Cool Jazz" Pace, and Literally a "Cool Jazz" Place.Robert Di Niro, Edward Norton, and Marlon Brando spar for Acting Honors, but the Truth is...it's a Tie. No One Actor outshines the other and it is Surprisingly, quite a Spectacle of Underplaying. It is this Level Playing Field where the Movie gets some of its Charm. Some may find it too Melancholy, but the Principles Involved in setting up the Heist are Skilled Professionals and are very Careful Operatives. Norton being the Youngest is the most Gregarious, but even He is Steady most of the time. One of the Highlights has Norton Playing a Mentally Challenged Character (a palsy victim janitor) to get access to the Crime Sight. It's Doubtful that Today this would even be Considered in a Politically Correct Environment. It's a Throwback to Crime Films of a Bye-Gone Era. Not for Everyone, but those with Patience and Strong Attention Spans will most likely get a Kick out of the Actors and Enjoy the Suspenseful Conclusion.
Python Hyena The Score (2001): Dir: Frank Oz / Cast: Robert De Niro, Edward Norton, Angela Bassett, Marlon Brando, Gary Farmer: Here is so much potential that manages to score very little in the appeal rate. Here is an action film about possession or level of crime committed by two men who measure each other's capabilities. Opening bares nothing to what follows. It stars Robert De Niro as an intelligent safe cracker given a final assignment from his boss that he doesn't wish to undertake because he doesn't desire to commit a crime in his home town. Edward Norton is faking downs syndrome at a customs house where a scepter is uncovered. He mapped out the inside and needs De Niro to crack the safe. One can be sure that it will not conclude lawfully. Directed by Frank Oz with a standard plot gives way to formula but this is a different project for someone who has made Bowfinger and The Indian in the Cupboard. So much potential is wasted here by talent who are so far above it. De Niro, Norton and Marlon Brando are typecast with Angela Bassett unnecessary as De Niro's girlfriend. Normally having their names on any advertizing poster would be deemed positive, so how unfortunate that they are reduced to such shabby writing. We have seen films like this many times before and we will likely see dozens more with even lesser talent. It has an empty screenplay that never scores. Score: 2 / 10
