malcolm-mcewen this is an excellent believable story that reflects the hopelessness that many families face. I can only assume that the critics slated this movie because it depicts a world so far from theirs that it is impossible for them to relate too it. For Robert Martin's world is entombed in a grotty council estate and relies on state benefits to support it. He dreams of a happy normal family, one he is desperate to take on holiday, but like so many is trapped, there is no escape from the council estate in the shadow of the football stadium. Martin, who isn't smart enough to get out of his situation but is smart enough to realize it, pins his hopes on winning competitions. His frustration at failing to win a family holiday on a desert island though pushes him over the edge and leads him to take desperate measures. This is an entertaining and believable movie about real life made even more real by the excellent performances of Evens and Burke: far far far better than the 4.9 it is rated here and whilst a 10 is a little generous it is definitely worthy of an 8/10

danprice-1 Had the misfortune of watching this film the other night because my daughter had it on. Challenging to be the worse film I've ever seen. Had seen a little before, by accident but nothing had prepared me for the sheer tragedy that is this film. Trying to be Mike Leigh but falling way short. Patronizing to the working classes, no real story, swearing for the sake of it, characters that had no personality or redeeming features and totally nonsensical conclusion. How Kathy and Lee Evans got involved in this is beyond me. I really can't quite believe how bad it was. Rubbish, total rubbish. Save yourself a couple of hours and avoid.

graz84 This film is a great laugh and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I especially loved the slagging match in the car between Mr Martin and his mother-in-law, hilarious! Highly recommended!

Vigilante_no12003 WARNING-----------------------WARNING********************SPOILERS****************************** I saw this movie on sattalite last year and was bowled over.It's a funny and touching film about a family that live on a council estate and struggle to make ends meet.Lee Evans (mousehunt) plays the father of said family who is sick of not being able to even take his wife an kids on holiday,so he steals one.Watch it to know what i'm on about. It has some memroable quotes especially from Ray Winstone (Ripleys Game) Such as:"Why does your dad want a childrens entertainer,when he's already a f***ing clown himself?" Brilliant!!! All in all a great movie which I reccomend.
