Derry Herrera Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
Darin One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
Cristal The movie really just wants to entertain people.
Surobhi Deb If you are a fan of romantic movies just like me then you will definitely like this one. The one thing that sticks me like a hangover from the movie is its story line which is so beautiful and threaded in so much love. The good looks of the main characters and certain dialogues certainly leave a trail somewhere in your mind. This is a movie I would not mind watching repeatedly since its just so beautiful. Even the countryside in the scenes make me wish that I were there. The movie had lots of interesting surprises that were totally unexpected and reveals the intelligence of the movie maker. This was not like any other movie that I have recently seen.
juneebuggy This was a good book, I enjoyed the movie too, a decent enough adaption of another Nicholas Sparks romance. I think it could have benefited from being slightly longer as some of the major plot points were glazed over but on that note I wonder if I would have thought the same thing if I hadn't read the book first? Anyways, Zac Efron is nice to look at and does a good job as a slightly PSD'd Iraq war veteran who returns from his third tour of duty and tracks down the woman from a photo he credits with keeping him alive. His good luck charm, a woman he doesn't know but who he soon suspects may be the love of his life.I enjoyed quite a few things about this movie; it's beautifully shot; sunlight filtering through trees in Louisiana. I liked Blythe Danner as the grandma, I liked the relationship 'Logan' develops with Beth's son, playing chess and the sweet scene where he gets the courage to play violin in church. Taylor Schilling was good as the love interest too, she had several emotional scenes to get through. And Jay R. Ferguson does a great job as the bad guy/sheriff/ex-husband. He is a character that you can easily hate, which is always fun.My favorite scene in this movie would be when Logan "schools" 'Keith' disarming the drunken bully on a crowded street, all the while maintaining his cool and making Beth's ex the Sheriff look like a total ass.I was disappointed with the "exciting" climax though; a storm, rising flood waters, a child trapped on a wooden bridge and both men fighting through the waters. This had a hugely suspenseful build up in the book and for a while you're not even sure who survives. Here the whole scene is done and dusted in about 5 minutes. Lame. 6 /14/15
malcotoro As I said, I have not read this Nicholas Sparks story, but seen movies of his other romantic dramas. Actually I think this is one of his very best, and I continue to replay it. It has a good mood about it, and the chemistry between Taylor Schilling and Zac Efron you notice almost immediately… the director Scott Hicks remarked on their chemistry and I fully agree. There are some favourite scenes which bring tears to the eyes, and unlike some reviewers I cannot complain about the movie. I found it heartwarming and really liked it. Without giving the storyline away, I do not want to to introduce spoilers obviously. Blythe Danner I have long admired and she heads the supporting cast. Zac gives Taylor's young son moral fibre and confidence at school and I was touched by that. Zac has a special reason for wanting to meet Taylor, he is so handsome and she is so lovely, and seeing them together in this story I was spellbound by their romance… the locations for the film in the southern states are quiet and green… It's in my collection, no intention of selling this DVD but as I watch again I decided to write this understated review Malcolm in Toronto May 2015
Semira Ariana If you have read the book and are familiar with Nicholas Sparks you will definitely find the movie to be butchered in relation to the narrative. I was so disappointed with what the filmmakers did to the narrative, continuity and substance of the story.. it's almost confusing to follow if you have not read the book- or even appears lacking if you haven't. Of course i know it is difficult to incorporate a whole story into a film but it is possible to capture the essence and I do not think these filmmakers did a great job of doing that. However, Zac Efron and Blythe Danner are the only redeeming points in this film. Their casting and performance are really the only thing that kept me watching this film, especially Blythe. I felt that Beth's character could have been cast better but that is just me. I definitely would advise against watching if you have read the book. If you haven't I would say give it a go but don't expect to be blown away.
