Synopsis

1920, rural Ireland. Anglo-Irish twins Rachel and Edward share a strange existence in their crumbling family estate. Each night, the property becomes the domain of a sinister presence (The Lodgers) which enforces three rules upon the twins: they must be in bed by midnight; they may not permit an outsider past the threshold; and if one attempts to escape, the life of the other is placed in jeopardy. When troubled war veteran Sean returns to the nearby village, he is immediately drawn to the mysterious Rachel, who in turn begins to break the rules set out by The Lodgers. The consequences pull Rachel into a deadly confrontation with her brother - and with the curse that haunts them.

ShangLuda Admirable film.
CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
Erica Derrick By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Bob This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Stefan Campbell An interesting concept that suffers from poor writing. Weird things happen without rhyme or reason and the audience is never given an explanation for anything. Minor conflicts in the movie happen for the sake of taking up time to bring it to an hour and a half and no resolutions are ever provided The acting isn't horrible, I guess.
Deoglood If you enjoy easy-paced movies, you'll enjoy The Lodgers as I did. I found it easy to get drawn into the ambiance of the 1920's authentic Irish village, as the story builds firmly the culture of that period to give it the needed texture for the lore. I am unfamiliar if a poem repeatedly recited in the movie is based on anything historical, but it adds to the story pretty well even if a bit too often. While most ghost stories make us scared in the way supernatural things do, The Lodgers abundant apparitions aren't the only thing that makes the viewer uncomfortable - it visits a disturbing taboo that twists as the story unfolds, thankfully with intelligence.I've never been a fan of sudden 'boo' thrills, so the few provided were thankfully spooky and actually added to the story. This may not be on the top of the average typical viewer's thrillers, but is done well enough to be added to my October playlist, as the cinematography and acting are well done, and a story intriguing enough to satisfy someone looking for a good afternoon show on a breezy autumn day.
foose-57309 It's a haunting movie. It draws the viewer in, and mixes fear and suspense. It's not the typical horror film that just looks for shock and awe. The movie is well made, and the acting is superb.
slimecity-38663 Im very fussy about horrors and like many from hellraiser to the descent to The Autopsy of Jane Doe. I dont usually like the watered types of pseudo horror for the masses like Woman in Black. But I did really like Crimson Peak and this movie is similar to that - a great historical setting and very atmospheric. well paced and great set design. It looked gritty & dark. Great acting and the sister was yum. the story is good too. Very good direction. Recommended if you like The Others.
