yuengling215 This movie was really good! I was a skeptic at first but gave it a chance & it was well worth my time... This movie unfortunately came out just a couple of weeks after September 11, 2001 which overshadowed this movies release I believe. If it didn't come out directly after the Horrible attacks on 9/11 I think this movie would've gotten a lot more attention. But at that time we were a nation in shock & those events overshadowed everything within that time period Following the horrific events of that day. Getting back to the movie, it was very well acted & very well scripted. Also the movie had quite a few well-known actors including Robert Redford & James Gandolfini just to name a couple. If you're looking for a movie that is not your typical Hollywood CGI, action-packed, horribly acted movie, then I definitely recommend you check this flick out. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
ashleybrownmedia A military prison run by a heavy-handed warden (James Gandolfini) is the setting for this action drama.A disgraced three star military General (Robert Redford) is sent here to serve a sentence for a miscalculation that led to the deaths of a few of his troops.Things tick along okay for a while, but soon Redford and Gandolfini cross paths and the rest is history. Military history.Redford leads a rebellion against the warden, and soon wins the respect of the other men. This leads to one of the most fun finales that I've ever seen in a film - where the prisoners fully rise up and take on the guards.Things start out a little slow, which might put off fans who are looking for pure action, but as we reach the second half of the film things begin to pick up.There's also a subplot where Delroy Lindo plays one of Redford's colleagues, and the two men still have a good companionship. As Gandolfini's nefarious antics hit a fever pitch a lot of the film focuses on getting the audience hopes up that Lindo will arrive in time to help save the day.The cast here is great and, in another world, The Last Castle could easily have been a classic - however it falls short, hence my 7/10 rating. Some films have that 'wow' factor that can't be predicted or can't be measured, and The Last Castle doesn't quite have that.
borislav-56812 This is one of the most powerful movies I've seen. The only movie which get my eyes water, the way when Eugine Erwin dies it's something like the ending scene of T2 when the T800 goes to the liquid metal, no Titanic, no Godfather, no Schindler's List, but this movie. People don't like it because its fiction, of course its fiction, Batman is fiction too, but its art. The acting is great - the general's character is simply awesome and the villain - one of the best of all time in an action movie, the plot is awesome, the music throughout the movie is simply penetrating and the twists in the plot are great too. But the most thrilling thing is the powerful moving throughout the movie. And the ending is just perfect. You expect the flag to go upside down but no it goes up right to show that this is the castle. This movie I can watch countless number of times.Simply awesome: 10/10
Avid Climber The Last Castle is an army feel good movie set in an prison. The good. Well planned out tactics. Solid action. A bit of suspense and intrigue. Nice acting. Well paced scenario. The actors. Robert Redford, James Gandolfini, Mark Ruffalo, and Delroy Lindo give us a credible performance. Their lack of brilliance is not a reflection of their capabilities, but rather what they were given to work with. The bad. Too much army heroic mentality. Not every soldier is like that. The ugly. Single minded characters, lack of normal complexity. The result. A satisfying testosterone flick. Do not expect more.
