GamerTab That was an excellent one.
MonsterPerfect Good idea lost in the noise
Rexanne It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
Scarlet The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
quridley This is Fulci's ripoff of Suspiria. Murder at a hotel, a female protagonist shows up, creepy people work there, the occult is involved, etc. it lifts a few scenes directly like a blind person being bit by their seeing eye dog. The Beyond, while beautifully shot and directed well enough, is a very stupid and slow film that borrows too much from previous Fulci films.
Irishchatter Seriously, for a fan of horror movies, I honestly thought this movie was ridiculous and just pure fake on killing the victims. It wasn't even that scary, it was just absolutely rubbish and like, none of it was that disgusting as you can see they were just melted dummies faces and dummies eyes being pop open. It just looks pure lazy and so cheesy to be honest with you! Also with the guy whose eyeballs were just bad heavy makeup and honestly for a zombie, he looked ridiculous as well as the rest of the "supposed" victims! Also you would see that the actors knew well what was going on by their sweet tones of voices. Honestly I found that there was no scare or no theme to this. They make me think that it was just a random 1980's thriller movie that will never be successful just like "Nightmare on Elm Street". Thats true but I've seen better 1980 horror films then this one, its just horrible and distasteful...........
LakiM9 Just seen this movie. I am fan of Giallo movies and I honestly think that this movie is a must see for Giallo fans, like for example Argento's "Suspiria" or "Deep Red". To understand meaning of this movie for Giallo wave, you got to have knowledge about movies these days. The post Exorcist and Dawn of the Dead period saw many imitations. There were only a few directors that had actual imagination and creativity to set their movies apart from the rest. Of the bunch, Argento, Bava (father and son), and Fulci stood quite apart from the rest, each with their own talents and trademarks.Fulci's "visible" trademark, which is seen even in this movie and in his movie a few years before this one, "Zombie"(aka Zombie 2) is gory eye cutting scene, it is maybe a homage to Spanish director Luis Buñuel and his infamous scene from "Andalusian Dog".It is also having very nice cinematography with those dark shades of of lighting(especially at the beginning of the movie) and has a haunting score, suitable for this type of movies. The only thing which is "minus" for this movie is frame freezing at the end of a shot sometimes. Its dialogue is average for slashers and is suitable.Gory zombie slasher from an Italian horror maestro Fulci, would recommend it. 7/10
arhodestaylor I was recently lucky enough to be able to see this film coming off of Zombie, City of the Living Dead and The House by the Cemetery. I am surprised that so many of these films were cut or banned as part of the video nasties scare, adult control should be enough to allow films like these to be released uncut as long as people are aware of what they are like and that violence and gore are involved. Unlike many films which kill time passably The Beyond has become for me something far more memorable. I can't say whether the story itself plays a strong part in this, I will say only that there are a number of very strong shock scenes which have stayed with me. The pre- credits opener is as surprising and violent as one could hope for and sets the tone for the rest of the film straight away. Of the rest, the spiders, the dog and the death of the girl particularly stood out, also the two scenes with the handyman once being killed and then causing death as an undead himself. The acid death was not bad either. I was a little surprised that zombies figured into the film well maybe not much they were in the other films also but it seems like zombies being added to the story just for the sake of it the film would have been just as good with no zombies at all and still just as gory. The use of strong gore effects was a definite highlight including flesh tearing and eye gouging all good. The climax was also extremely good and very downbeat, did not really see that one coming but it certainly felt right.
