Synopsis

Broadly considered a brand that inspires fervour and defines cool consumerism, Apple has become one of the biggest corporations in the world, fuelled by game-changing products that tap into modern desires. Its leader, Steve Jobs, was a long-haired college dropout with infinite ambition, and an inspirational perfectionist with a bully's temper. A man of contradictions, he fused a Californian counterculture attitude and a mastery of the art of hype with explosive advances in computer technology. Insiders including Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, the chairman who ousted Jobs from the company he founded, and Jobs' chief of software, tell extraordinary stories of the rise, fall and rise again of Apple with Steve Jobs at its helm. With Stephen Fry, world wide web inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee and branding guru Rita Clifton, Evan Davis decodes the formula that took Apple from suburban garage to global supremacy.

ThedevilChoose When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
Erica Derrick By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
jigling92 My first review here, just read the book instead. So much better.
Ersbel Oraph State owned television built to kiss royal behinds and promote whomever is in power. In the spare time promoting Christian values like the love for the king, the love of god or the love of poverty so the aristocrats could save their money for more important stuff.Jobs does not look like a drug addict. In fact he was quite the opposite: not taking drugs even if his life depended on that. But that is no block for the eager British bureaucrats: he was "a drug taking" person in his youth. And even if he went so low in the production team's fundamentalist take of the world, still Jobs became so big. They could have said it was all the work of the Devil. But that is not acceptable today. So they did the best they could. Which was not much in terms of quality. The same way there is not any noticeable information over the Wikipedia page, apart from some footage paid by the British tax payer for the glory of the State.Contact me with Questions, Comments or Suggestions ryitfork @ bitmail.ch
Desertman84 Steve Jobs: Billion Dollar Hippy is the unauthorized documentary about the late Apple co-founder,Steve Jobs by BBC.It provides a different perspective about him which is far different from what most previous documentaries like "Steve Jobs:One Last Thing" and "Steve Jobs:The Last Interview" have presented him to be which is a technical genius and a great visionary.Interviews from Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, former Apple CEO John Sculley, Stephen Fry, world wide web inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee,branding guru Rita Clifton,Xerox Project Manager Danny Teslar and many others that did not include Apple,Jobs' biographer and sister,Walter Simpson and Mona Simpson respectively. Evan Davis acted as a narrator that takes us to Job's journey of success from the garage to leading Apple to becoming the most valuable company in the world. The first part of the documentary presented Steve Jobs as influenced by the counterculture of the 60's and that of computers during his youth. It also presented him to be an LSD user.Woz provided some interesting comments about him of being a great marketeer but not the technical wizard that many perceive him to be.He also stated that he isn't a technical wizards at all at his(Woz) level but a great presenter a new products. He also stated that Jobs swindled him when he made a program for him during the latter's time at Atari. Sculley made comments too about Jobs' failure as the head of Macintosh project as the company suffered enough losses as well as his regret of accepting the position of Apple in hindsight.Apparently, the bitterness of Jobs and his anger towards Sculley in the interview he gave in Triumph Of The Nerds was also shown. Also,it was interesting to view many interviews as well from many former employees of Apple and Pixar whom he yelled at,did not respect, fired and did not treat very well reflecting on his horrible demeanor as well. Apart from that,a comparison between Bill Gates and Jobs was also made with the former being a better person to work for as compared to the latter. In summary,it showed a lot of his bad side as a person. Aside from that, the documentary also focused on how he saved Apple from bankruptcy upon his return to it ten years after he got fired. But nevertheless,it focused on how a great marketeer he was as well as the people behind the new products such as iMac,iPod,iTunes,iPhone and iPad were given proper credit like Jonathan I've and iPod mastermind Jon Rubinstein . His marketing genius was emphasized more rather than his vision of the future as it was more about the Apple engineers and designers instead of Jobs himself. Also, the new products the led Apple out of the bankruptcy was also "redesigned" products rather than original products as stated by some of the companies who made a partnership with Apple and former Apple employees as well.In fact,Napster was even mentioned as the forerunner of iTunes just as XEROX PARC were the forerunners of the products for Macintosh such as the mouse and GUI (Graphic User Interface).Surprisingly, former PIXAR employees also provided themselves credit as to making Jobs a billionaire due to the success of Toy Story. Finally,it also mentioned how Jobs manipulated the market to his company's advantage. On the personal side,Jobs' death was also partly blamed on himself as he refused to undergo surgery 9 months earlier after the cancer was discovered on his pancreas. Also, his former partners sort of like blamed it on his personality trait of thinking that Jobs can control everything.Watching this documentary will definitely provide a different outlook of the late Steve Jobs. His fans would probably resent it especially the most most loyal fans as well as Apple product fans and users. It definitely provided less credit about him.As stated in the title, his being a hippy is what led him to success.Too bad that being a hippy is has a lot more negative descriptions rather positive attributes that made him and Apple successful. perspective about him which is far different from what most previous documentaries like "Steve Jobs:One Last Thing" and "Steve Jobs:The Last Interview" have presented him to be which is a technical genius and a great visionary.
