Reviews

Tymon Sutton The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.
Zandra The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
Sarita Rafferty There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
Dana An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
Wizard-8 I am usually a sucker for any offering from the western movie genre, which is why I picked up the DVD for this movie when I found it at a dollar store. But I found it to be really bad, so I can only wonder what casual or non-fans of the western genre would think of it. Now, the movie does offer a once in a lifetime cast, and I admit that writer/director Dwight Yoakam does manage to generate some genuine desolate atmosphere. He also directs the gun battle scenes in a manner that makes them come across as more realistic than usual. However, the action moments only make up a small part of the movie. Most of the movie is simply an extremely slow-moving mess, with too many characters just standing around talking about uninteresting thing with barely any plot in sight. I have to admit that I almost fell asleep several times watching the movie since it was so dull for the most part. Incidentally, I watched the full 133 minute version of the movie - a cut version running 100 minutes apparently exists. This is one time I wish I saw the cut version of a movie.
franzzzzz it was a long sit... this was about the worst movie i've ever seen: excelling in bad directing, plot full of mistakes and unnecessary "funny characters" (couldn,t get my cheek turned), misuse of some good actors and so on and so on... even this "musician" failed to produce a proper score: sounds merely as leftovers that could cheaply "fit in"!and then this overacting: supposedly meant for a laugh but in this case the stomach turns!IF there is a story i would opt for a serious cut-down and a remake by the Coen brothers (for their intelligence and humor) otherwise by Tarantino (for brutality and humor)!!! but that's never going to happen! better as well...i loved the end: 1- it was finally over. 2- the man in dress was not kissed. 3- i realized it was all wasted money 4- i got to know who where lured into this projectDON'T TRY THIS AT HOME!!!!!
wingedheartart Well.....This was/is an odd film. Makes you hate most men or a lot of men. Just some odd characters. I love Dwight and think Bridgett Fonda needs to be in more films, but what was UP with the kisses Dwight was giving her in that balloon????? Were they kisses or was he cleaning her face off with his mouth? Not his tongue, but here, let's kiss strangely and you better fall in love with me when I do it. Weird. Still love Dwight though, just hope his next writing adventure is better. However, I like the idea of what happened to the character that got his manhood cut off when he was going to take what he wanted from Bridgett Fonda's character. Oh well....worth a watch...but not the best film.
steedjas This movie has a cast of some of the best or most popular actors in the last 20 years. But even with all that talent they cannot make the impossible possible. Or to put it another way you can't polish a turd. The cinematography, lighting, editing, directing, plot, timing, writing & any conscious thought are lacking or nonexistent. And when you have a bad director, you have bad actors. Some of the biggest names (Fonda, Thorton) have no more than a handful of lines. Which was probably a blessing for them.Do yourself a favor and watch Unforgiven or The Fastest Gun in the West or just read some Louis L'Amour.Dwight stick to singing.
